Why does my snipping tool no longer bring up the pop up image to edit?

1. Open up the Snipping Tool App
2. In the top right, click the 3 dots, and go to Settings.
3. Disable Automatically save screenshots
4. Take a screen shot with Win + Shift + S
5. Popup notification appears as we've all wanted!

I think this may be it. I have tried all of the other solutions, but this finally worked and I am now getting the notifications after taking a screenshot with either Print Screen or Win + Shift + S.

I turned off the "Automatically Save Screenshots" option in the snipping tool settings and then the pop up of the snip I just made started showing up. I turned the auto save back on and the pop ups went away. I am thinking that since it is already "saving" the snips somewhere it decides to not let it pop up.

The correct behavior of the snipping tool in Windows 11 should be that you:

1. windows-shift-s
2. drag a box
3. you'll get a toast notification in the lower right with your screenshot and the screenshot will also be in your clipboard
4. if you click the toast notification, it will open the snipping tool where you can save to disk, highlight, or draw
5. if you don't click the toast notification, you can just paste (ctrl-v) anywhere that an image can be pasted (e.g., MS Word, Slack/Discord/Element, many websites, etc.)

If you find that the toast notification doesn't appear (step 3), then you are experiencing the bug reported here. It means the snipping tool has crashed/locked up and you'll need to manually kill it before you can take another screenshot. If you experience the above workflow, then that is the "working as intended" behavior of the snipping tool in Windows 11.

This is precisely my issue too. Yet, I'm the only person at my company with the issue. I have tried Terminate, Repair, Reset for the app, made all sorts of changes to Notifications and the Task bar. Nothing works.

This is pretty typical of my whole experience with Win11.... The processes that I had down to the fewest clicks and keystrokes in Win10 have now become extra cumbersome in Win11.

Sure would be nice if I could un-combine all my taskbar icons. I guess it doesn't matter if my workflow is hampered as long as Microsoft knows that my workspace meets their aesthetic requirements to look as close to other OS as possible.

I agree, Stu. Perhaps a feature request where users who prefer that the snip pops up for editing/saving can turn that feature back on and users who prefer to simply have it snip to the clipboard can choose that option?

Here's the solution:

Notifications do not happen when you automatically save all screenshots.

I have had this issue for months, and it was driving me crazy because on one computer it worked and on the other it didn't. I finally gave in and searched the internet to verify I wasn't going crazy. That's when I found this post and tried every solution on page 1, and not a single one of them worked. So I took matters into my own hands and started changing every setting and testing.

Thankfully the first one I tried was turning off "Save all Screenshots," and it immediately started giving me notifications when I took a screen shot.

Not sure if anyone else has found this, but considering there are 17 pages of replies, I'll guess it has been, but that's too many relies to check.
