Why does my snipping tool no longer bring up the pop up image to edit?

It's a good point Boo Nagatsuka, but in my case I've never enabled Focus Assist. I think whenever I've used the Windows key + Shift + "S", a notification always popped up for me and if I clicked "Select here to mark up and share the image" I could edit it if I liked or ignore or dismiss it and just paste ti somewhere a little later on. (Actually in Win 11 right now the notification did pop up even with Focus Assist enabled and in Win 10 it doesn't pop up only if 'Alarms only' is enabled). My gripe was that if I right-clicked the Snipping Tool taskbar icon (in Win 11) and clicked "Take a a new screenshot" I expected the editor window to appear instead of a notification (because it would then be superfluous) and when I only got the notification with no editor window I became a little irritated that it wasn't behaving as I was used to it behaving particularly in Win 10.

The fix as I've detailed earlier is in Apps-> Default Apps-> Screen Snipping switching Snipping Tool off and making "Screen Snipping" the default app for MS-SCREENCLIP - the logic still eludes me but it works. Annoyingly (as you've found with Focus Assist) Microsoft sometimes switch this back so I now know the sequence very well.

I had this problem, too. My fix: do you have Focus Assist on? I turn it off, but for whatever DUMB reason, at some point it turns back on. Not sure if it's when I restart intentionally or do a hard restart. But that is usually the culprit. I turn off Focus Assist, and I'm back to normal with the popup notifications. Not sure if it's applicable to your situation.

Stop press! My Windows 11 laptop has just updated itself to Build 22631.3672 and, wouldn't you know it, the original problem I posted here some months back has returned!
Namely, after right-clicking the taskbar shortcut and clicking "Take a new snip", the editor window didn't appear automatically. Instead the notification appears which I then had to click to make the editor window appear.

I was indebted to Jasell's post (page 12 of this forum) of October 28, 2023 which suggested the default app for "MS-SCREENCLIP" (in Default Apps, go to "Screen Snipping") needed to be set to "Screen Snipping" rather than "Snipping Tool" for some reason that is beyond me.

I've just done this again to get the behaviour back to the way I want it and as it always was in Windows 10 Snip & Sketch. The Snipping Tool by the way has also updated to version11.2404.40.0.

I echo what others are experiencing where once you have snipped an item it does not automatically pop up as it used to. You have to click on the app below to then get to what you captured.

The only solution I have found is to right click on the snipping app pinned to your task bar and select "Take a new screen shot."

When I take a screen shot that way, it then pops up automatically.

Agreed, this is annoying once we were all used to the way it used to operate.

I found one solution.

This may not be the case for you but I had the same problem and the cause was this: I had focus assist on.

Even though the notifications were toggled on and everything seemed normal, I wasn't getting pop up notifications for anything. Then I noticed a little moon symbol next to the action center button. Right click on the action center button, you will see "focus assist" if it's on, try turning it off. That might be your solution!
