Windows 10 Update problem with 22H2 - DISM & SFC not working

Hello,

since last week im trying to update my system to the latest 22H2 but neither the windows-update, nor the media creation tool worked for me - they got stuck at 100% and even after 24h nothing happened - so then i found a guide on how to reset the windows update components and in the tutorial they asked to use SFC via command prompt - but when i try to use it i get an error message :
"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

I checked if the TrustedInstaller-service is active but its not and i cannot start it (via services.msc) i get an error message:

"System Error 3: ...could not find path"

what can i do now? please advise

FYI, the failed upgrade should have reverted to the original configuration automatically. It doesn't uninstall any driver.

The upgrade failed because it could not migrate a driver to the new installation, as denoted by the MIGRATE_DATA error. The setup logs will tell what caused that.

Not sure which update you uninstalled in Safe mode. Maybe you can clarify that point.

As said in my previous post, simply run SetupDiag again and upload the latest logs.

Ok, but setups shouldn't take this long. It's really weird!

  1. Run chkdsk c: /f
  2. Disconnect all hardware peripherals except your kbd/mouse,
  3. Clean up every unwanted driver using the driver assessment tool and pnputil.
  4. Uninstall optional features like unneeded FODs and language packs.
  5. Delete unwanted user profile folders.

Run Setup.

Disable dynamic updates in the initial Setup screen.

And, pls note that the logs will give meaningful information only when the setup fails gracefully/installs successfully.

Looks like SetupDiag was unable to collect the logs. Please upload the logs manually..

Log file Description
C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log Contains information about setup actions during the installation.
C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log Contains information about setup errors during the installation.
C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\miglog.xml Contains information about the user directory structure. This information includes security identifiers (SIDs).
C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\PreGatherPnPList.log Contains information about the initial capture of devices that are on the system during the downlevel phase.

Additionally, please attach the mdmp file mentioned in that SetupDiagResults.log file.

That's great.

You could have run SetupDiag to collect the logs. SetupDiag collects the setup logs and saves them into a zip file named Logs.zip on your desktop. Upload the file to your OneDrive, Dropbox, or any other cloud hosting account and share the link here.

Edit: Please try the ISO method the next time.

  • Download the 22H2 ISO using Media Creation Tool.
  • Double-click the ISO to mount it to a drive letter.
  • Run Setup.exe and complete the repair/upgrade.

Disable dynamic updates and switch off your internet connection.

    Hi Ramesh,

    Now i have a bigger problem.

    I left the system running the update over the weekend and today i have a black screen l and can not do anything...except the monkey-grip (ctrl, alt, del) but then the taskmanager is not starting.

    I can only see the cursor and the system responds but i can not see anything except the cursor.

    I tried running safe mode (via taskmanager) but even in safe mode im getting a black screen and can not do anything.

    seems to be a problem with the update or a driver that was un-/installed during the update...what do you think?
