Windows 11 language's basic typing won't finish downloading

There is a known issue that if you type Chinese characters in an English system environment, the word-searching bar would disappear while typing multiple Chinese characters in a row. This issue was never fixed and was very annoying. Today I tried to uninstall the Chinese language pack and wanted to do a reinstall, the language pack was downloaded just fine, but the basic typing was just stuck at the downloading phase and never goes to completion. I've been waited for more than 24 hours already.

Hey guys,

New here but was plagued by the exact same issue (Windows 11 ASUS ROG laptop) and managed to solve it with one of the mentioned solutions. Here is a TLDR and its working perfectly now for all languages for me.

Methods that did not work:
DISM fixes, restarts, regedits, ESD/CAB installations

Method that worked:1. Remove all language packs installed in Optional Features

2. Remove all secondary languages under Time and Language (Just leave the main one)

3. Run an In-Place Windows 11 upgrade (link provided below on how, might take quite a while involving multiple auto restarts. apps and files are not affected at all, read info in link)

4. Reinstall secondary languages, they should still take quite a long while but a tad under 45 minutes for me

Hope it helps for those who are still stuck!

    Hi,

Could you go to Settings > Apps > Optional Features and check for Chinese Supplemental Fonts is installed?

If yes, uninstall it then restart; then try to add Chinese basic typing again see if it works.

If no, add it from the option then try to add Chinese basic typing again see if it works.

Honestly, I didn't (want) test this because I don't want to live through the Reset PC again.

Since you're having this issues and can't do anything about it, I'll suggest this trial and error.

    Good luck!

Thank you very much! I've just tested these for Japanese and they worked (ありがとうございます!):

    1. I had Japanese Supplemental Fonts installed. I removed them, restarted, then tried adding Japanese basic typing - it failed as before.
    2. I removed the fonts again, restarted again. I then added the fonts - successfully. I tried adding Japanese basic typing again, and this time it installed successfully!

So, if you do have the Japanese (or, I guess - Chinese) supplemental fonts, the procedure should be:

    1. Remove them and restart the computer.
    2. Add them back (wait for the install to finish).
    3. Add Japanese (or Chinese) basic typing.

Thank you for confirming what I suspected. Windows system fighting against each other, always the root cause of system failure (bug), however it's really hard for us to troubleshoot without looking at the source code. The other perfect example would be Windows hybrid mode/battery saver mode/performance mode, combining with laptop manufacturers' and GPU manufacturers' own software trying to control the laptop and ends up in rabbit's hole causing unstable (failed) system. I really hoped they can actually sit down inside a room and talk to each other and build a system that work in harmony instead of creating more troubles.

Glad this helps! Maybe someone can pinned your comment as solution that actually helped!
