Microsoft Authenticator is asking me to authenticate using Microsoft Authenticator to use Microsoft Authenticator

So first of all... Why is "microsoft Authenticator" not an option in the "Products" dropdown when choosing where this post should go? I'm just going to choose "Windows"... Sorry not sorry.

Also, I can't take a screenshot on the microsoft Authenticator app without it capturing a black image (thanks,) so here is an extremely low resolution webcam picture of my phone screen.

When I click "Passwords" section on the microsoft authenticator app, I see a button that says "Sign In".

So, I click the button, to sign in. Then, it asks me to authenticate using microsoft authenticator, but I am not signed in, and this is a "sensitive" page, so I have to enter the code displayed into microsoft authenticator, BUT I AM ON MICROSOFT AUTHENTICATOR ALREADY!!! Who designed this terrible app??? Cheap labor resources then you expect us to prefer microsoft edge over Chrome? LOL

Also, when I search my own question in "Bing", it doesn't come up, even if I type the title word for word. Does it go through some sort of not-mentioned approval process before my post becomes actually visible to the public, or is Bing just extremely bad at updating its search results in a timely manner?

I see that this issue is going on from 2023 and I am having the same problem. When I go to add my work account to the authenticator app it asks for my email and password. After entering them it asks me to enter a number into the authenticator app but I can't because the app asking me to enter a number into the authenticator app is... the authenticator app? How has this not been fixed yet. My previous employer used Google Workspaces and it was seamless. Why does Microsoft's corporate suite suck so bad.

    Shaun,

Are you completely new to using the Microsoft Authenticator or did you previously use it with this current Microsoft account and either replace or factory reset your phone?

Typically, most in this thread were already using the Authenticator in the past and then the act of replacing or otherwise losing the original copy of the Authenticator led to an invalid configuration that causes this loop.

In any case, it's your corporate IT administrator or help desk that should be aiding with this, since they're the ones responsible for making the changes listed in several previous posts to remove the old, invalid information that's causing the Microsoft account to assume you already have a working authenticator to send the verification number to.

If you happen to be the administrator for a small business, then you should use whatever Microsoft Support number is appropriate for your particular product for aid in fixing this problem if you're unable to do it yourself, such as being locked out of your admin account.

    Rob

    Hello,

we are implementing passwordless sign-in with Authenticator app in our company. Everything works OK, except sign-in for Teams on mobile phone. When I want to sign-in, it throws me to Authenticator app and says I have to enter the number into the app, but the app doesn't ask me for any number (notifications for other sign-ins work OK) so I can't do anything, because I already am in the Auth app.

As everyone on the internet suggests, I tried setting up fresh MFA, with no luck.

    Regards

My computer updated a couple months ago and has locked me out of my one drive and microsoft account that's connected to my Gmail. I never set up 2 step verification through an authenticator app. It also has asked me to do the same and I have found myself in the same position. Unfortunately its also connected to my old phone number and I have tried submitting multiple recovery forms to no success. I even got stood up on a virtual face to face meet with a microsoft professional, they said it was "technical difficulties on their end". Oh, and don't count on calling them either. they have completely automated their customer service. Their AI answer bots will not resolve your issue at all and then direct you to the recovery form and hang up on you when you try and call back I'm beginning to wonder if their is anyone that actually works at microsoft. Perhaps its all just robots and AI, maybe it always has been. If not hope someone at microsoft sees this and reaches out too me.
