I use Windows 11 and this morning I got some notifications that I needed to download some RealTek extensions but they are not working, The three are:

Realtek - Extension - 9.21.3690.427

Install error - 0x80070103

Realtek - Extension - 9.21.3690.427

Install error - 0x80070103

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Extension - 6.0.9366.1

Install error - 0x80070103

Anyone know why this is happening and if the update it legit or not?

Yes, I got some similar updates in WU on my Win-11 Home yesterday 16 Feb 2023 with the latest Win-11 updates. I get the updates below, but they don't download or install, and they always come back as "Retry" like you have shown no matter what I do, the updates are these:

    1. Realtek – Extension 9.21.3690.273
    2. River Networks LLC – Extension – 2.3.3314.0
    3. Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus – KB2267602 (Version 1.383.51.0)
    4. DTS – Extension – 1.10.35.0

The FIX is to do this:

    1. Launch the Run dialog box. Type C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution*,* and press Enter.
    2. Select all the files in the SoftwareDistribution folder and click on the trash icon at the top and delete them all.
    3. Get out of that File Explorer folder and reboot the PC
    4. After reboot, run Windows Update as all these updates will be eliminated and won't come up again and your Windows 11 Update will say "You're up to date"

    Fixed for me:

If you don’t want to download anything, there is an alternative lower.

    1. download windows update blocker from sordum.org (search for it in the search the site bar), install it,
    2. disable the updates (have protect services settings ticked) click apply
    3. Click retry all in windows update, updates should dissapear
    4. Go back to the update blocker and enable updates, click apply now
    5. Go to updates and click retry, should be fixed now.

The reason why they fail is because the update service sometimes tries to install the same version of the driver multiple times or tries to install an older version and fails.

When you disable and re-enable the updates, windows starts checking again for updates “from scratch” therefore the updates that failed do not reappear.

    ALTERNATIVE:

Press Win key+R, type services.msc, find Windows Update Service (it’s almost at the bottom), right click, properties, in the general tab go to startup type and select disabled, click stop under service status, apply.

Search for updates (retry all), should dissapear

Go back to the service properties in services.msc, startup type Automatic, apply, click start under service status and then retry the updates.

Hope this will help you all
