I use Windows 11 and this morning I got some notifications that I needed to download some RealTek extensions but they are not working, The three are:

Realtek - Extension - 9.21.3690.427

Install error - 0x80070103

Realtek - Extension - 9.21.3690.427

Install error - 0x80070103

Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Extension - 6.0.9366.1

Install error - 0x80070103

Anyone know why this is happening and if the update it legit or not?

Realtek drivers are kind of hit or miss, the default drivers that come with the computer should work just fine.

Also, the install error is detail in this post Windows Update Error 0x80070103 - Microsoft Community.

To fix it, you could do three things:

    • Wait for newer driver
    • Ignore update
    • Reset Windows Update Cache and try again.

To retry the installation, you must use the third option following these steps:

    1. Go to Settings > Storage > Cleanup Recommendations
    2. On temporary files, click the "See advanced options"
    3. On the list that appears make sure "Delivery Optimization Files" is selected and then click "Remove files"
    4. Restart
    5. Run Windows Update again

If that still doesn't work, I would advise just waiting for Realtek to solve the issue, but you could also google how to do the above with console commands to force the removal of cache and an install of the drivers.

After attempting the previous twenty fixes and others with no success, this worked. My email app was inoperative. My Firefox browser was unable to access the internet. Several apps assumed that I was not connected to the internet although MS Edge worked ok. Provided same fix to my wife's laptop and it now works. Thank you Graham.
