Windows 11 Browse For Folder Dialog Issue - Only Desktop

In several programs, when I need to set a folder location for example, and open the Browse Dialog, I'm only shown the Desktop folder. I can't access any folder outside of "Desktop". It doesn't make a difference to run the programs as admin.

Edition Windows 11 Pro

Version 22H2

Installed on ‎21/‎09/‎2022

OS build 22623.730

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22636.1000.0

    Actually found a "fix" on some blog post before the update!

    The post mentioned several issues that could have been the culprit. Turns out I had way too many folders on my desktop (spanning on multiple screens and all). Removing a bunch did the trick!!

    We had this issue as well and found that setting the root folder before displaying the dialog fixed the issue.

        Dim fd As New FolderBrowserDialog

           fd.RootFolder = Environment.SpecialFolder.MyComputer

            fd.SelectedPath = _FolderLocation

            If fd.ShowDialog() = DialogResult.OK Then

        ........

    I know this thread is old but I have this issue on Windows 10 PRO Build 22H2 19045.5693. I followed much of the advice on this thread but most produced no results.

    After disabling the OD Desktop sync the issue seemed to have been solved. After restoring the desktop to it's former glory the issue persisted. It would appear the number items on the desktop also causes the issue. The maximum number of icons I can have is 99. Anything over this and I get the select folder dialog issue.

    In my setup I have 168 icons. Using 2x 4K monitors easily allows for many more.

    Anyone know how to get the system to accept more icons?

    This is new, I have never heard of this. I would select auto arrange icons to see if it will accept more. The desktop is just another folder.
