Windows update 10/12/2022 broke my PC totally!

Todd! I'm right there with you. It did the same to mine! I was avoiding the updates and somehow it updated itself even though I had restricted the updates. Now the black screen of death is irreversible! This is BS! It doesn't even show my USB drive in the boot menu to reinstall windows to it's prior format I have saved on a USB stick as well... AND it won't let me access a restore point in safe mode. GARBAGE! What do we do now ? Windows has a history of this! SICK OF IT!!

Yep....its pretty infuriating. I have 32 GB of RAM plugged into my motherboard currently, but I just looked last night and only saw it registering 16GB of RAM, and I am STILL unable to get it to see my 1 TB M.2 drive that is mounted in my motherboard....so yeah, still very upset at this, and of the lack of ANY sort of support coming from Microsoft.

Update on another dead PC due to Microsoft.

Today 0ctober 26.

Just before I went to bed 2 nights ago, windows 10 downloaded new updates.

Yesterday morning (25th), they were ready pending install (about 5 different updates), so I started the install and went to work.

Got home after work and all installed, restart PC needed, great. Restarted, went to make a cuppa and some food, came back to PC after an hour. PC on, CPU fan spinning and RGB working (Ryzen 3600), GPU lit up and fans spinning (GTX 1060), but blank screen.

Turned screen off, back on, screen shows its own connection test.......no signal.......screen goes to sleep.

Initially I figured my Quest2 had overridden the monitor (connected by link). So I put it on and tried to get to desktop through that. It says no PC connected. I switch USB and check cable. Orange charging light is on, so USB has power.

I unplug cable and try AirLink. Headset says no PC available. Its now that I notice my Ethernet socket has no lights flashing to show connection.

I mess with my router......nothing.

I then realise my keyboard and mouse have no lights. Keyboard is PS/2:connection, mouse is USB.

I try a WiFi dongle to see if It comes up on my Quest.....nothing.

I hard shutdown and check cables, power supply, SSD.....the usual.

Switch power back on. GPU has white light indicating cable inserted from PSU. I unplug cable and red light comes on indicating no cable, but this also indicates that there MUST be some power coming through PCIe slot.

I switch on PC in this state. CPU fires up, RGB OK, GPU fans spin (again showing that there is PCIe power).....but monitor no signal. Nothing to mouse or keyboard.

I strip down my PC back to bare. Remove CPU, clean, new paste, replace. Same with GPU/RAM. Insert just one stick, leave out GPU and restart......Cooler spins and lights up, no beeps, and its here that I notice the motherboard has an LED near the RAM that flashes once when fired up.

Still nothing.

Remove CMOS battery and go make a brew....... No change.

Now I go steal my sons PC, switch GPUs, he has HD 7870. My PC with his GPU....nothing. His PC with my GPU......perfect.

So then I swap PSUs.........same result.

I can't swap RAM because DDR4/DDR3.

My last move is to swap SSDs. Again his PC with my SSD is fine, so this means windows has installed. My PC with his SSD......nothing.

So all I can surmise, is that the windows update has killed all signals to my motherboard I/O??

I am now running mys sons PC with my GPU and SSD installed. He uses his XBOX more anyway.

And the replies that are stating that the update may just be highlighting a problem that the PC already had......THERE ARE ALMOST 40 CLICKS on the "I have the same problem" option THIS MONTH!!

Me To, second time this year I've had to reload windows and programs due to a "failed" cumulative update. WHYYYYYY ????????
