Windows update 10/12/2022 broke my PC totally!

I noticed last night before I went to bed that I had the option to update and restart my PC which meant there was something in Windows that needed an update. Ok...sure. I selected that option, watched the system prepare and download the update, and went to bed.

This morning I go into my office and my PC won't even boot! I initially get to the Windows loading screen....nothing but the spinning dots for 30 minutes. So I hold the power button down, let it reset...same result. I reboot again, try to go into Safe Mode....nothing at all. Black screen. So I thought "Great! I have to reinstall Windows and restore my last system image (which was this Sunday thankfully)." So I get out my Windows USB install stick, set my PC to start from there, get the prompt to install 32 or 64 bit Windows, select 64 bit, get the loading install files message...

Nothing! Doesn't load at all!

I've tried to get into Safe Mode, took out all my RAM and reseated them, only installed 1 stick at a time (out of four I had installed), unplugged and reseated the PSU cables to EVERYTHING...not one single thing is working! I use my computer for work, and right now all I have is a $3500 paperweight! I've now spent HOURS in Google University trying to find the magic bullet that will fix this, and nothing is working!

    Same exacting thing happened to me. Clicked to install the update. Came back to a black screen. Restarted the computer, the windows logo comes up, dots circle, then black screen over and over. I get into the diagnosis and it can't fix itself, I go to uninstall updates, both of those options don't work, they say I have a pending update action that is preventing the deletion. I try system restore, doesn't work, it starts the process then says undoing changes. I tried a system reset, doesn't work. I wen't to the command prompt and did a chkdsk it found errors and fixed some but ended with an error message, then treid the dism and it fails, restarted the computer and same black screen.

    I feel for you Ken-Cedric!

    My Acer is on Windows 10 Home but didn't suffer like yours, however some days it runs so slow the computer is virtually unusable.

    The next day it can work fine although I'm sure it is not as fast as before the last big update.

    Good luck and hope you get out of that trap soon!

    Hello,

    So sad to see that we are quite many to face the same show stopper.

    My computer is a Dell XPS 8000 of 2009 initially with Vista, then Windows 7 until Windows 10.

    I can't reach Safe Mode nor use my backup image.

    It's going to be nearly 1 month now that I accepted this "mortal" update.

    It ruins my family computer.

    I've tried diskpart, dism but can't succeed because the volume associated to the OS partition is lost.

    I cannot clean the latest update image since I can choose a volume or path to it.

    I am very sad to see also that there seems to be no solution except re-init/re-install.

    I feel like a rat in a trap.

    This is not really fair at all

    Indeed P_Clark, meanwhile I'll soldier on and look for solutions online trying to avoid MS as all they seem to want to do is sell me something!

    Yes, I looked at Linux which seemed to be for the more technically minded which I am not.

    As for Windows 11, according to Microsoft my 3 year old computer (not old in my books) could be upgraded but not a route I'm going down. Imagine the issues that's going to throw up! How about just getting Windows 10 working properly!

    I'll get a new operating system when I get a new computer with it installed and ready to go.
