Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry Using High CPU

Hi, whenever I startup, I notice that Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry uses about 50-80% of my CPU which stops after a minute or so. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

The Windows Compatibility Telemetry contains technical information about how the device and its associated software work. It sends data to Microsoft on a regular basis in order to improve the system and improve the user experience. To resolve your issue about its high CPU usage, you can disable this service in the Task Scheduler by following the steps below:

  1. Click Start, type Task Scheduler, and then press Enter.
  2. On the TaskScheduler window, go to this path: Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience.
  3. On the Application Experience folder, look for Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser.
  4. Right-click on it, select Disable, and then confirm to complete the process.

Hey I found a fix, I just went to that file location of that "Telemetry"

In my case it was at : C:\Windows\SysWOW64

  1. Renamed "CompatTelRunner.exe" -> "Something.exe"
  2. Then Ended the task on taskmanager then it didn't start up.

Of course I am not sure if it will have any long term effects. Do it at your risk :)

    Hello, I found the file in another folder, it was in system32, But when I try to rename it it shows me a window with access denied, how can I do it please?

    Just asking (rhetorically): Does Microsoft consider itself a "green" company?

    I'd really like to see an analysis of how many MW (and I seriously mean MW) of energy are constantly consumed by Microsoft's scrapeware running on every Windows PC in the world.

    My i7 laptop is running at 73% CPU utilization - and all I am doing is making this web post! The top several tasks consuming CPU are all systeml services, including "Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry" (#1), "Intel System Usage Report", multiple Dell services with like names, etc., etc.

    Yes, it's normal. (The technical term for normal is 'expected behavior.')

    Would you like to see the data that Microsoft receives from your computer? Here's how:

    1- Sign in to the Administrator account.

    2- Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Diagnostics & feedback > View diagnostic data

    "Normal" would be the service not running when I've disabled it in every way possible short of removing the exe (which isn't recommended for obvious reasons since it's tied to OS stability), so it's not normal when I watch my graphics shut down temporarily because this spyware is eating up half of my processing power.
