Could not update to 22h2 due to 0x800701b1 and 0xC1900101 error. Then I managed to update and boot fails, 0xc0000098 errror. What do I do?

Let's try deleting the erroneous boot entries which are pointing to a non-existent device.

The statutory warning applies! Before modifying the boot configuration, please backup your system image (the OS and boot partitions) to an external hard drive using Macrium Reflect Free edition.

From Admin Command Prompt, run:

  • bcdedit /export c:\boot_config_backup.bcd
  • bcdedit /delete {9649d88d-4b28-11ed-8001-6d7368757261}
  • bcdedit /delete {4069d4e4-2920-11ed-be4c-a85e45d0a878}

Then, run these commands and post the output here:

  • bcdedit /enum All
  • bcdedit /enum All -v

    Boot the computer using the USB setup disk.

    From the Recovery Options Command Prompt, run:

    • diskpart
    • lis dis
    • lis vol
    • sel dis 2
    • lis par

    Please post a screenshot of the output window.

    OK, if you can't find another way to make it work and before you decide to do a clean install, perhaps we can work on increasing the size of the EFI System partition to 150-200 MB. With third party partition management software, it is easy to do. As with everything else, having a backup, would be good.

    Your log does not show a timestamp on the Anti-Virus utilities, would you know why? Is Defender and the other one up to date?
