I've noticed that a lot of posts in this thread appear to have the following general substance:

Hi, I'm a computer user with NO formal education in InfoSec, but I DEFINITELY know what I am talking about! I have read SEVERAL blogs and forum posts about Windows security, which qualifies me as a SECURITY EXPERT. These "unknown" SIDs are UNQUESTIONABLY either a 1337 h4x0r breaking into my computer, or M$ spying on me; there's NO POSSIBLE WAY they could be legitimate components of an incredibly complex operating system that are necessary for the OS to function properly. I'm so certain of this that I did not need to do ANY research on this specific SID to see if it could be, for example, a known Capability SID.

So I just removed it from the ACL, completely ignoring any warning messages that may have come up in the process. (Who reads those warnings anyway? They are just LIES from M$ to cover up their BLATANT spying activities!)

But ever since then, a certain component of Windows hasn't been working right. This is PROOF that M$ has crippled my PC in retaliation for me putting a stop to their OBVIOUS spyware. It's definitely NOT an indication that I broke something by removing that SID from the ACL. I'm an EXPERT, remember?

This post is not directed at anyone in particular. If you are offended by the content of this post, consider the possibility that the reason you take offense is that you realize that it describes you, and consider what that actually means.

By labelling users this way (or rather "unlabelling" them), Microsoft is normalizing the viewing of information that should make us suspicious, increasing the likelihood of ignoring a real threat in the future. Cybersecurity threats will never be taken truly seriously until someone manages to hack and remotely ignite the launching of a nuclear bomb.

This is spot on, and although it is a little dark, we have to really accept the current landscape as potentially leading to such a reality. Now, I think that cybersecurity as an Industry and as a necessity is definitely gaining more recognition. But Why? Answer: Actors that use the internet (everyone, from kids to the mega-corporations and anyone in between) are not safe on the internet, as has been pointed out repetitively. People with low or non-existent values can learn just as fast and effectively as anyone else, and knowledge is power... ESPECIALLY when it comes to IT. Money is lost, and in a socioeconomic system that values Profits over People — (don't deny this is the truth ... just look around) — then of course more focus will be honed in on cyber security.

What is going to happen in the future that people will regret not enlightening themselves of the beauty and dangers of Information Technology? Why can't we move proactively instead of reactively after tragedies and losses happen? Microsoft ... Be smarter than this. As an entity that has shaped the modern world and culture around the globe, Microsoft is accountable and responsible for what issues may come about from their exploitable weaknesses and ignorance.

Unknown accounts are called "feature SIDs" and are there to provide permissions for applications. For example, the S-1-15-3 one could be associated with Nvidia. It is not recommended to delete them.

The reason it appears this way is because the system can no longer find a friendly name for the account and by default just moves SID to the full name.

However, to see who the real users and administrators of the PC are, you can do a further check by typing in the search bar: "netplwiz" without quotes obviously, check if that user appears there...
