Windows 11 reboots itself - Annoying!

Hi All,

I have windows 11 installed on "HP ZBook Studio 15.6 inch G8 Mobile Workstation PC".

Windows ver: 21H2 (OS Build 22000.1098)

It reboots itself during the night every day more than once though I only lock the computer. Before I used to hibernate/lock the computer to start where I left off my open programs. There are days when I reboot every 2 or 3 weeks because I never needed to reboot but now it does it every night.

It started doing this after the recent update.

Note: The power settings were working fine as it is still the same. But it reboots for no reason.

    Hello there,

    First of all I feel your pain; tasks running overnight are an essential tool and to have that quiet space invaded is nothing short of criminal. A machine rebooting mid-meeting or mid-presentation is equally ridiculous and how that came to be approved and implemented we shall never know.

    Hopefully the resolution should lie in the Windows Update > Advanced Options space.

    On my Windows version I see:

    This should be On as it is now, but it can mysteriously change itself to Off for some reason.

    Worth checking the Active Hours settings - change these from Automatically to Manually, then define a large part of your day to being off limits:

    Double-check anything to do with updating and rebooting.

    Then, I'm afraid, it's a bit of a wait and see if that cures the issue.

    I am shocked to see that this is apparently a serious problem with Windows 11. What kind of idiot programmed this thing? I don't mind updates, in fact, I keep my Windows 11 up to date, but I DO mind automatic reboots that I have not confirmed. My computer is often doing tasks overnight for the very reason that they are expected to by DONE by the next morning; instead, I came to a rebooted computer that has done NOTHING and I have to do everything ALL OVER again.

    How do you disable automatic updates? I don't ever want that the PC reboots because of an update without ASKING my first. How do I disable the reboot? There has to be a solution. I tried gpedit.msc doesn't seem to be available in Windows 11 Home, so I'm looking for another option.

    So I try to make this a very easy question: how can I prevent automatic reboots on Windows 11? It seems to be tied to Windows Update. I don't want to come to my PC the next morning to find out it has wiped out all the work it was supposed be finishing overnight.

    Whats up with all the people like this that seem to just provide some copy paste answer vaguely related to the topic? To a human reading this it is clear that this person has not really read the question but just posts some generic answer to the headline. Bot?

    这个问题直接影响到了我更换win11，现在我准备换回win10了。难道大家的工作不重要吗？到时间了你直接给黑屏关机更新了，连个延迟更新选项都没有，让大家在组策略，注册表里面天天一顿乱改，改完了还是只能延迟一次，一点用户体验都没了。而且Hania回答的也驴头不对马嘴，用户问的是更新后重启，Hania回答的是在系统失败后重启，完全没有作用。太水了
