Is live.co.uk using POP on a mail host out of order or discontinued.

Actually I understand the Windows 10 App does allow collection of emails via POP rather than IMAP. There are several articles on the internet showing how to do this. However if it doesn't allow import of stored folders/messages from elsewhere then that doesn't help me. I had felt that if using Windows 10 (Microsoft) it would be better to use Microsoft's own Mail App but it just doesn't seem to be suited to my needs. I will therefore probably use Thunderbird as this DOES cater for up to six email accounts, using POP3, local storage in folders and the ability to transfer the entire setup including storage folders from machine to machine when one changes laptop.

"If you download mail into both WLM and Thunderbird before deleting it from the server you will have backup copies." doesn't help me at this point because I have already deleted all emails from all servers. I always do this immediately after collecting in WLM (which is why I need to copy the local mail storage folders to the new laptop). However, if I end up continuing to run both the Windows 7 laptop and the Windows 10 laptop for the time being, then once I've set up Thunderbird and imported the storage folders I will download to both WLM & Thunderbird before deleting. (This can however be a problem with a gmail account using POP3 as gmail doesn't like downloading in POP to two places)

I certainly don't wish to pay for a mail client host programme.

I am also considering using Windows Mail on my Windows 10 laptop rather than WLM 2012 as this is specifically designed for Windows 10 and is likely to remain supported for some time to come. However I cannot find out whether it is possible to transfer all the thousands of emails I have stored in local storage folders on WLM 2012 on my Windows 7 laptop. These were downloaded on POP3 and the originals deleted from the server so I only have them locally (and all folders exported onto external hard drive for security). I have to refer to these regularly. I know how to export these from WLM 2012 but not whether they can be imported into Windows Mail (Windows 10 Mail). I have six separate email accounts and use POP3 for all as I want to store locally in folders, not on servers. I don't use IMAP. [I have also posted this question separately on October 19th as "Is it possible to import local stored message folders (POP3) from Windows Live Mail to Windows Mail (Windows 10 Mail)"] If importing these stored emails is not possible in Windows Mail then I can't use that.

You will not be able to import stored mail into the Windows 10 Mail app. And that app does not store mail locally. It connects via IMAP so mail is on the server.

Yes, there's a good possibility that at some point WLM will become incompatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11 and won't be fixable.

Perhaps you should try Thunderbird (free) on Windows 10. You could import WLM messages into that app.

I think you should try to install WLM on Windows 10. It won't break Windows 10. The worst that can happen is that WLM won't work.
