No I don't need to change to outlook.office365.com. If you were correct in your assumption of the cause I would have needed to use the MSN settings from the link in your first response (outlook.com). But this issue would not have suddenly happened this week as outlook.com and outlook.office365.com have been operating for some time. Your assumption as to the cause is I believe incorrect. I cleared the dns cache and registered the dns. This seems to have worked and I am currently able to pick up pop3.live.com in WLM. Why only my live.co.uk email was affected and not my other POP3 email accounts I don't know (perhaps you do?), nor why this issue suddenly arose this week. I am not a technical person and had hoped for help on the forum from people with technical knowledge. I am disappointed in your response but pleased my own internet research and efforts seem to have achieved resolution which hopefully will continue and that my solution might also help someone else in future.
Is live.co.uk using POP on a mail host out of order or discontinued.
Is live.co.uk using POP on a mail host out of order or discontinued. It worked perfectly for years but has not worked for last 2 days. I get "Unable to send or receive messages for the Live.co.uk (username) account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems or a long period of inactivity. Server: 'pop3.live.com' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F Protocol: POP3 Port: 995 Secure(SSL): Yes"

2021-10-14T21:55:51+00:00 The ports, servers and encryptions I have are correct. The server was responding perfectly until October 10th 2021 then suddenly I got the response I quoted - instantly and continuously - for the live.co.uk account only - each time Windows Live Mail connected to all my email accounts. I think it is something to do with the DNS cache. You can see I use Windows Live Mail if you check my post. I don't want to use IMAP: part of the reason for using Windows Live Mail is to retain specific emails only on the one laptop and delete from everywhere else via webmail (Outlook). I use Windows Live Mail on Windows 7 laptop. I can pick up messages on webmail (Outlook) but that doesn't help when I want to retain on WLM and delete from all other places: I need them to download as POP into WLM so I can retain some permanently locally on my laptop and off the server.
