Is live.co.uk using POP on a mail host out of order or discontinued.

Thank you. I can't say I "thought" of clearing the dns cache. I spent a lot of time trying to research on internet why I had this problem & what to do about it and eventually found an article which gave me a clue then I followed up on that. I've never had any problem like this before. I truly hope this solution has resolved the issue: it is only about 24hrs since I cleared and registered the dns cache so I can't yet be sure. It is a mystery why it only affected my live.co.uk account in WLM 2012 and no other email accounts in WLM 2012. I rely on POP and Windows Live Mail so I can retain individual emails locally on my laptop and delete from elsewhere. Maybe someone else will benefit from coming across this exchange - it would be nice if some good comes out of this. I appreciate your help (and a degree of reassurance) ! Thanks

This is a useful piece of information but I don't understand how to download it. I have always been told (even by IT specialists) ever since Windows 10 was introduced, that Windows Live Essentials was not available on Windows 10. (The only part of Essentials I actually want or need is Windows Live Mail). The link you gave provides information (of a sort) but not a download option - or at least not one that I can understand! It shows a download file "Torrent" and another "Windows Executable". You obviously succeeded and I see you reviewed it. I take it that it is a safe download. Please could you give me further information. Your help is appreciated. Many thanks.

As far as I am aware (and I'm not technical) my research indicated the problem was in the dns. I cleared the dns cache and registered the dns. This seems to have worked and I am currently able to pick up pop3.live.com in WLM. Why only my live.co.uk email was affected and not my other POP3 email accounts (gmail, btinternet & AOL) I don't know (perhaps you do?), nor why this issue suddenly arose this week.

Perhaps you, as a Moderator, can explain why this happened and why it only affected my live.co.uk email and no other POP3 email address on WLM 2012 nor any other internet service. Is this likely to happen again?

Glad that you thought to clear the DNS Cache. Random problems with the DNS Cache just happen. You didn't do anything to cause it and you can't prevent it.

If it happens again, clear the DNS Cache again.
