So what does it (the registry HKey) say at the moment ? Is it just the single sub-key SSL 1 ?

Please try and see whether the registry change works for you as it has - so far - for me.

Tap Windows key, type regedit in search box and double click on the resultant regedit.exe file

If the TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 subkeys are missing (i.e. if the "Protocols" key only has a single subkey named "SSL 2.0"), you need to create them manually. Here's how to do so:

1. Right-click on "Protocols". Select "New", then "Key". Name the new key "TLS 1.1" (without the inverted commas).
2. Right-click on that new key, then create another key underneath it named "Client" (without the inverted commas).
3. Right-click on the new "Client" key. Select "New", then "DWORD (32bit) Value". Name the new item "DisabledByDefault" (without the inverted commas). By default, its value is zero (which is what you need, so leave it as that).
4. Right-click on "Protocols". Select "New", then "Key". Name the new key "TLS 1.2" (without the inverted commas).
5. Right-click on that new key, then create another key underneath it named "Client" (without the inverted commas).
6. Right-click on the new "Client" key. Select "New", then "DWORD (32bit) Value". Name the new item "DisabledByDefault" (without the inverted commas). By default, its value is zero (which is what you need, so leave it as that).

The ports, servers and encryptions I have are correct. The server was responding perfectly until October 10th 2021 then suddenly I got the response I quoted - instantly and continuously - for the live.co.uk account only - each time Windows Live Mail connected to all my email accounts. I think it is something to do with the DNS cache. You can see I use Windows Live Mail if you check my post. I don't want to use IMAP: part of the reason for using Windows Live Mail is to retain specific emails only on the one laptop and delete from everywhere else via webmail (Outlook). I use Windows Live Mail on Windows 7 laptop. I can pick up messages on webmail (Outlook) but that doesn't help when I want to retain on WLM and delete from all other places: I need them to download as POP into WLM so I can retain some permanently locally on my laptop and off the server.
