As per the previous announcement, Windows 11 will be released for the general public starting October 5, 2021. The rollout through Windows update would start today to the eligible devices and continue until 2022.

    I have a desktop PC that will be four years old this year. Processor is Intel Core i3-7100. According to list of compatible processors, this means I can't run Windows 11.

    I have updated to every version of Windows since I bought a computer, even Vista. I won't be doing that this year, as I can't afford to buy a new PC. Microsoft seem to be pushing people to buy a new Surface device. I will never buy Surface, I don't want a laptop or notebook or tablet.

    Looks like this will be the first upgrade I miss out on. Sad to say goodbye to you, guys, but not all of us are made of money, especially after the pandemic year!

    You should frequently back up your PC and especially just before any major update or fresh installation of Windows otherwise you are likely to lose your folders and files unless saved to the cloud. I've had 2 hard drive failures without warning in 12 years but luckily I back up on a regular basis to an external drive.

    So this depends. There were 2 build updates after 22000.194. As my laptop was non compliant I didn't get them. You need to run the check tool to verify your PC is compliant. If it is I would suggest backing all your folders and files up then doing a fresh installation of Windows 11.

    Would it be best to back up the device before the windows 11 update? Im just worried that the device would be memory wiped due to the update to windows 11.

    will people using insider build 22000.194 get actual windows 11 upgrade?
