I started having an issue (very recently) with being able to answer a reply to my comments on MSN News. I can comment on a news article and someone will reply to that comment. When I open MSN News again and get a "reply balloon" on the bottom of the page and proceed to click on the text in the balloon (to bring up that page with the comments so I can respond), it now takes me to a "Microsoft Start" version of that page (with the colored blocks showing on the page tab instead of the MSN butterfly) which looks like the story as it appeared from its original source (like Reuters or Insider, etc.) that doesn't have the comments available or showing anywhere; it's completely different from the original MSN page.
I typically use Firefox but I’ve opened MSN in Edge and it’s doing the same thing, so the only way to comment on a reply is to bookmark the original MSN page when I comment, then get back to the page that way and hunt for the reply to my comment on a refreshed version of the page. As of now, I haven’t found a way to get it back to the way it used to act, so maybe this is new behavior with MSN News, but if so, it’s definitely not preferable to the way it used to be. This isn't some critical issue, but it's very annoying when trying to follow-up with replying to a comment response. (Windows 10 Pro, HP laptop)

I contacted Microsoft support twice and let them take over my computer for a few minutes. They didnt know what the issue was either and couldnt suggest anything helpful. They admitted theres no normal way to report this issue directly and after giving up, suggested I contact someone else... after I was referred to them. They just told me to go in circles.
Being that there are several people that have replied to my original issue here, it's not your computer or browser but something that's going on with Microsoft. I expect it's tied in with this new Microsoft Start "personalized news" page that might eventually replace MSN News (see that earlier response above). You would think that Microsoft would be aware by now of this commenting issue, though, and I will say that if they intend to start eliminating comments by transitioning to these Microsoft Start pages, a lot of people will be displeased and simply jump to Yahoo where you can still at least comment (and reply to a response) on a few articles. It's either that or they'll find a way to get this fixed. There are other was to get personalized news (like in the Widget, for instance) without hijacking the pages you're trying to get back to. That's my take on it.
It was easy to do before. Now it is a complete mess. I post, people reply and then it is impossible to reply to their reply. Something is funky for sure. Hope they iron it out, but at least you can comment again. Something they turned off for quite awhile.
The new "personalized" news feed is also annoying. I want all news. I don't want news directed to me because of something I may have clicked on before. I like all opinions. It is one reason I don't have FB. I do not like to be fed a feed. I want a generalized feed.
I agree with you, I don't use FB either and have no need for it. Generalized news is why I even bother with MSN News in the first place. I also look at Yahoo and occasionally I can find the same story there where I can comment and reply back easily if someone responds to me. As I commented previously, I think they'll be losing some (and maybe many) viewers if they go with this MStart business and have no comments available. Time will tell.
