Hi everyone,
After the upgrade to Windows 11, I've found that my laptop won't go to sleep after closing the lid. The fan keeps making noise with the lid closed, and the battery is drained.
When opening the lid again, the computer won't respond to anything (blank screen, power button does nothing, keyboard doesn't respond), but it's active because the fan is working.
This was working fine before the upgrade and is a major problem, because the battery dies pretty quickly.
Laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad 530 i7 8 GB ram.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Best!
David

Hi
I have recently got this laptop from HP with windows 11
the laptop has a peculiar problem of battery drain on sleep mode. the laptop loses almost 20 percent battery in 8 hours of night and at times you cannot even boot the laptop because it has reached to reserve battery levels, and you need to search for power adapter.
searched online for help which recommended changing sleep to hibernation. did that as well but the outcome has no change.
the only solution that works is to shut down the laptop every time you don't use and that is not a solution if you want to resume your work.
please suggest how to stop this drain so that we have better battery management and life.
Hi Pankaj. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.
Sleep keeps power to the RAM to maintain the session until it wakes up. This is normally very little power.
Hibernate writes the RAM session to the Hiberfile on C, then powers off completely so it would be very odd for it to lose power.
However there are known issues for Battery problems in Windows 11 so let's try some of those fixes first to see if they resolve it:
Try these fixes for Windows 11 battery drain:

Several solutions refer to a Clean Install, which has good tutorials here:

I would argue this "solution" is anti-helpful, you're urging people to go chase down non-working solutions. By barraging all of these links to people, what you're doing is expecting busy people to go read all of these articles that don't lead anywhere. This is the opposite of being helpful.
Find a solution that works for sure. By this point, there is a fully established consensus that windows modern sleep is draining batteries. It's no longer a fringe experience.
I'm finding MS's front-line support less and less helpful over the years.
Please.
