Windows 11: Thumbnail previews do not show on folders

My folders are appearing as blank folder icons, where in Win 10 they showed thumbnail previews of the contents.

I've searched online for answers, and most appear to apply to earlier versions, and tell me to uncheck the 'icon only, no thumbnail' choice in View|Options, but that is already unchecked, so that is not the answer.

Does anyone have an actual working answer? Thanks if you do!

    You absolutely need to restore the thumbnail function. This is a MAJOR headache since I work as a web developer and need to be able to see both text and images quickly.

    Why would MS remove such a useful function?

    I've been trying for two days to get png (screen capture) and gif images on my thumbnails - they just vanished in Windows 10 - I've tried all of the usual hacks, and nothing works.

    I thought maybe it was b/c I'd deleted Paint but couldn't download it to Windows 10 so switched over to 11 and that didn't work. I've tried Restoro, Advanced System Care, nothing.

    I work with graphics all day long and right now I'm looking at 3T worth of blank white sheets. I'm going to check and see if Linux has this problem and if it doesn't, I'm jumping the MS ship. It took years to get the bugs out of 10 and just when they do .....

    That is ridiculous, MS really? lets remove something that was in all past versions of windows, as recent as Windows 10... stupid decision.

    Please read Page 6 - Microsoft has added this feature back in test Builds.

    I also have the same problem. I am a visual learner so this is causing me massive productivity issues trying to find the correct photo.
