Windows 11: Thumbnail previews do not show on folders

My folders are appearing as blank folder icons, where in Win 10 they showed thumbnail previews of the contents.

I've searched online for answers, and most appear to apply to earlier versions, and tell me to uncheck the 'icon only, no thumbnail' choice in View|Options, but that is already unchecked, so that is not the answer.

Does anyone have an actual working answer? Thanks if you do!

    Thanks David,

    I know that already, but I don’t want the picture file AS the icon, I want it ON the icon, as the OS shows it can be.

    As it reads in Properties/Customize, “Select a file to show on this icon.”

    As I wrote previously, they left the option there, but never completed it.

    It’s a bug in the OS.

    Easy, save file as bitmap in paint, ren extension from .bmp to .ico ,go to properties of the folder and change icon to that file (pic)

    they now look like this in the insider build , we wont know till the release if they use this exact one

    I use the windows insider build i don't mind having to reformat once its in the public release, (win 11 is on a dual boot for me , not my main computer )

    but if you want it , go to windows update and click windows insider to join , the insider build has it back enabled. win 11 was not finished yet when released ,relied on customer feedback.
