Windows 11 Constantly Crashing

Here's my answer. You get thrown all the way down to the bottom of the pit of hell and if your computer lives to tell the story it says I never want to go back there again, ever ever. I've been computing since the Commodore 64 days and have been in all sorts of messes and always survived, although Windows 11 had me seriously wondering. Windows 10 was no treat mind you, and there was a period where I had to reset it once a month for 4 consecutive months, and that does serve to break down someone's fear of having to spend all that time setting up your machine again, You still don't like it but it's less of a bother when you get the displeasure of this being a routine, much like the abused gravitate toward compliance over time.

Along the way with this particular journey I got a chance to stare into the abyss when this thing caused an error in my bias where every time I tried to boot up I got no hard drive detected. None of the normal fixes worked, and after spending a long time researching this and trying every known fix on the internet, nothing worked and I was left to my own resources. Fortunately my despair in trying everything imaginable led me to the solution, which came in handy when this happened a second time a few weeks later.

What the heck do you do when you have a Windows issue that does not even respond to a FACTORY RESET? Finally I realized that the only possibility is an incompatibility with software that came with the thing and Windows 10, and once I realized that I was on my way to recovery, eventually disabling a couple of Dell programs and getting completely well.

Then came the invitation for Windows 11, and feeling now emboldened I jumped at the chance. How bad could it be, especially given I had come back from hell with 10 and it's working perfectly now? I jumped in, and was greeted with hanging browsers and immediately set sail for home, Back in 10 land though, Windows knew I could be broken since they did it once, and I couldn't figure out a way to get updates for 10 without being given 11 again, which was scheduled for me as soon as I got back.

So it didn't take too long having to postpone updates continually, a month or so as I recall, before I made the difficult choice of jumping back on the pirate ship. It wasn't that bad, I told myself, my browser didn't hang THAT much I told myself, and I thought that whatever would cause this **** would be resolved or at least improved in future updates. I sure hoped so.

Instead, things got worse with every update. My wife who doesn't use the internet starting getting really annoyed when I told her sorry you have to wait a few minutes for the search page to unfreeze, and then wait a few more when she wanted me to look something else up for her, I sort of got used to it though, like a throwback to the dialup days where it took a few minutes to load a page.

One of the things that I missed was the ability to post on forums, and while I don't do that much of this anymore I do like to post here and there, and getting a BSOD a few lines in doesn't inspire you to do much of this. I did try again once or twice with something I really wanted to put up but a second punch in the face was plenty enough to drive me away.

They call it the blue screen of death, although in most cases this is like calling a cough when you have a cold a cough of death, and while some people do die of a cold this is more like your body telling you that you are sick. The real screen of death is black, as in you turn it on, it powers up with a slight tinge of light but that's as good as it gets until you figure it out. Those ones do scare me, even though I've always figured them out, the blue ones do bother me but when they come as regularly as they had with 11 you just hard power down and wait for the next one.

The one I got from the last 11 update was different though, I can't recall the code but it didn't tell you it is collecting data like they tend to do, this stop code was the real deal. Then the really bad stuff started to happen. I knew that the end was near for my Windows 11 and prepared for the worst, and it did not disappoint,

The Windows utilities told me I had corrupt files, corrupt Windows files no doubt, but restore health couldn't touch it, it would just lock up at 63% every time. This was not good and I was falling fast, although the thing was at least still functional, but not for long.

I ended up in a spot where it would boot up OK but missing the taskbar icons or the ability to open any program. I knew it was now time to choose the nuclear option again and reset the thing, ugh. It wouldn't let me undo the update, and when going back to a restore point prior to this update didn't help at all, I didn't have any choice if I ever wanted to use this thing again.

Not so fast son, this requires you to have the ability to reset the thing, sorry we aren't going to be allowing this, even with trying to do a factory reset. This is what you call being in a tight spot, what the hell do I do now? This is a laptop and didn't come with the good old DVD which saved me on a couple of occasions because there is no DVD. I can't download or even run anything, and I haven't bought an OS for a couple of decades, what kind of format do they come in these days? Do I really have to pay money to buy it?

So I decided to fight on for a while longer. I had thought I had the latest version of the Dell utility although along the way I ended up getting an update, which turned out to be the sword I needed to finally slay this beast. I finally got to the point where it let me do a factory reset, although I had to hold my breath on several occasions and have my escape artist talent challenged once again.

Among the oddities of all this was Dell giving me the choice of a factory reset and resetting Windows 10 64 bit home edition, what? What happened to my Windows 11? I still had the 11 desktop, but the reset isn't even recognizing it, probably because at this point it was so broken to be indistinguishable, much like charred bodies in a fire.

That didn't work anyway though, but the factory reset did get me my Windows 10 back. I am still glorying in that after a whole day of getting all my stuff back, and even the fact I can put up this post. Ahh, the simple pleasures in life we so take for granted!

So tonight I got another invitation into Satan's lair, but got to choose later. I had to choose that one because there wasn't a not on your life icon to click.

Maybe I'll try Windows 12, and while I do not dare to ask what the worst thing that could happen might be, you can't keep the same OS forever either. In the end, all of the grief has been very well spent, as it did send me back to a much happier time where I would like to revel in right now.

I don't want to make the common mistake of extrapolating too much here, and you always have people saying that a particular version blows, but in my experience at least, going all the way back to the 3.2 days, this one blows the hardest.

seriously after 9 years of using a macbook, after tearing my hair out with absolutely **** windows xp, 7,10, and now freaking useless windows 11 im glad to say that nothing has changed!!! Windows is still a national disgrace to America !!! All the money they pay the school-children to ‘make’ windows, all the hype and the talk, what a freaking calamity, what an utter waste of everyones time and effort. The best thing i ever did was buy a god damn macbook, no it just doesnt work, they do crash, but maybe twice in 9 years, not twice a kin day. Balmer whatever your name is, just retire just walk away and put someone in charge who can actually make a windows os that works and doesnt crash all the time.. Ive tried win 11 for 1 month, its crashed 35 times, and ive totally reloaded it 3 times. You are a disgrace to the USA just walk away

The dism commands fail to work on my win 11. They worked in win 10. I get the error message that thos function is not compatible with current OS.

yep, this is exactly the kind of thing that will drive people away, i can't even use my laptop for 20 minutes without a BSOD
