Item checkboxes cannot be disabled on windows 11

I know this is old, but I just want to thank you. this work great.

I have the same problem and NONE of the proposed solution work for me on my Lenovo X1 Tablet (gen2) that came preloaded with Win11.

Maybe it's because it's a tablet by default, there is some other place deep down in the registry where the ability to disable this annoying checkbox behavior is blocked.

It shows up in the view settings as off, and 'DeviceConvertible', 'TabletMode', and 'TabletPostureFreCompleted' are all set to 0 in 'Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell`

This is just one of several stupid things I've noticed about Win11 so far, but so far I haven't found a fix or workaround for this ****. So I'm hoping somebody out there has found another kill switch to get my computer to work they way I want it to (not the way the jerks at MS assume I should).

I noticed recently that Windows 11 22H2 has fixed that.

I had the same problem. It seems it was stuck in "tablet mode" and I fixed it by closing and opening the laptop lid.

I recently upgraded to windows 11 on my laptop, and I can't disable item check boxes in the file explorer.

Disabling item check boxes works on the desktop, but not in the file explorer (see attached screenshot).

I have tried disabling "Use check boxes to select items" in folder settings, and changing the value of HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\AutoCheckSelect to 0 in the registry, both of which do not solve the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

OMG, I was searching for a solution myself and indeed seems it was juststuck in "tablet mode" and I fixed it too by closing and opening the laptop lid (on a Surface Pro 7).
