Item checkboxes cannot be disabled on windows 11

I recently upgraded to windows 11 on my laptop, and I can't disable item check boxes in the file explorer.

Disabling item check boxes works on the desktop, but not in the file explorer (see attached screenshot).

I have tried disabling "Use check boxes to select items" in folder settings, and changing the value of HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\AutoCheckSelect to 0 in the registry, both of which do not solve the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

    Those checkboxes were driving me nuts and this has solved the issue.

    This worked on an Asus Zenbook 14 OLED (Build 22000.613)

    This is really a strange solution :D but is it a definitive solution?

    I mean...once you do all that, you do not ever need to re-enter into the local profile again and eventually delete it?

    Ps: Regarding the other solution of intervening with the registry entry, I kept the checkbox active as I use the Surface with an external monitor, and that "fixes" the issue as it works as intended: with an external monitor the Surface is seen/is working as a desktop pc, so no checkboxes as it is used as "not a tablet".

    Hey apparently my problem has been fixed I have a surface pro I also had problem with the check boxes as they were only showing in windows explorer so, to fix it you have to create a local account and sign out of your Microsoft account and then log in with the local account and after that wait a minute and then log in with your Microsoft account and then restart your PC and it may have been fixed, it worked for me atleast I just randomly did it and it worked lol.

    I have a Chuwi Hi10-XR and experiencing the same issue regarding checkboxes shown regardless of my settings.

    Just "upgraded" from factory installed Win10 to 11.

    This is going to be an annoying thing to look at whenever I have to go through folders.
