Item checkboxes cannot be disabled on windows 11

I recently upgraded to windows 11 on my laptop, and I can't disable item check boxes in the file explorer.

Disabling item check boxes works on the desktop, but not in the file explorer (see attached screenshot).

I have tried disabling "Use check boxes to select items" in folder settings, and changing the value of HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\AutoCheckSelect to 0 in the registry, both of which do not solve the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

I have all updates recent installed and the problem still

Ivery case it was the second time that this happens and in the previous installation the problem was solved by itself with the updates.

First of all thank you for your helpful advice!

It worked for me just by installing optional updates and rebooting so perhaps the other steps are not always required.

This worked for me. Save this code to a text file and save as a ".reg" file. Install.

For changes to take effect, go to Task Manager and restart File Explorer.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell] "TabletMode"=dword:00000000 "DeviceConvertible"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\StateStore] "ResetCache"=dword:00000000 "ResetCacheCount"=dword:00000001
Lenovo Yoga 720-15IKB. This also worked for me. Restarting Windows Explorer from the Task Manager was the necessary added step.
