Windows 11 file explorer is slow and lag

was having this problem. some combination of the following fixes suggested by others seems to have solved problem. File Explorer loads quickly now.

1. ran sfc/scannow at dos prompt (run as administrator): C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow. file checker found some corrupt files and replaced them. did not see any change in file explorer loading speed after a reboot.
2. Next day after slow load of file explorer, did Windows explorer restart using task manager.
3. with explorer open, cleared file explorer history under .... menu>options>Clear>ok

Same here. It's a shame that new Windows 11 is released with such big problem on a very basic OS program.

New windows must be faster not slower that before.... Microsoft try to focus on importat things not on bloatware

Going back to Win 10 now.

Windows 11 is running so slow when reading my drivers. For example, I have been trying to empty my Recycle Bin the whole day. It takes forever to open it, and slowly I have to delete the files manually (selecting them). The option of Empty Recycle Bin does not work, it freezes the computer. Windows 7, and even Windows 10, were way faster than Windows 11.

I can't believe that they haven't fixed this problem yet.

Please, do something about it. It is impeding my work.

My Win 11 file explorer mostly works fine. It's the initial directory you open at. When you first start file explorer or open a folder or folder shortcut its fine. Browse the dir tree and its fine forwards, back works fine unitil you return all the way back to the initial folder you opened, then there is a pause of about 6 seconds. Occasionally it even says Not Responding in the title bar. Eventually it comes back to normal.

I also noticed a similar problem in 3DS Max. When I go to load a bitmap in the material editor and the file explorer window starts, there is a similarly long pause.

I removed One Drive and Teams from my system early on, as well as disabled recent files because I heard that the new File Explorer searches those when you initialize a new instance. That didn't help.

I tried the F11 full screen Win 10 File Explorer trick and that works. That isn't very productive when you need multiple windows and apps open, and certainly doesn't help 3ds.

UPDATE:

I looked into the Disable Explorer Command Bar.reg posted before*.* There was both disable and enable reg keys in the zip file, so I tried it and it works.

It also fixed the 6 second delay in the 3ds Max material editor when I am browsing for and assigning a new bitmap to a material.

Beta test is one thing, but this kind of thing should be caught way before beta testing.
