Widows 11 setting default program for jpg files is not working

Just installed W11, clean install. I installed Irfanview for my image viewer and simple editing. However it will not associate jpg and png file types, although it did for many other file types. I tried installing as an Administrator. I tried setting associations from within Irfanview. I tried going to the Default Programs control panel and tried to associate jpg files with Irfanview. JPG is not listed in the file types. Nore is png. Both have been taken by Photo Viewer and nothing seems to make it give it up.

I understand that VLC video viewer is also having trouble with setting file associations.

I am using the 64 bit version of Irfanview, latest version. I am using Windows 11 Home.

I think I fixed it. I went to "Apps and Features", found Microsoft Photos, clicked on the hamburger menu on the far right, chose "advanced options" went to the Reset section and performed both the Repair and the Reset functions. After that I was then able to associate jpg and other file types to Irfanview.

I paid some pretty money for the operating system in the "pro version"... and now you expect me to bug report to help developers find the bugs in the code that should work correctly before it's compiled and sold to the end user ?

.... and you did not checked the very basic application in the operating system before releasing... even that it already have 6 pages of complains out of 311 milion pages in the google search.... ?

That tells me a lot about the sound driver issues as well as 500+ milion search results to "Windows 11 Wifi not working"....

btw. you could just put this issue on the top of jira or bugtraq or whatever you are using in MS... (if any...).... instead of asking the customer to do it for you...

Did you do this? "go to "Apps and Features", find Microsoft Photos, clicked on the hamburger menu on the far right, chose "advanced options" go to the Reset section and perform both the Repair and the Reset functions. then you should able to associate jpg and other file types to Irfanview.

So far this has worked for most people with W11. It's possible that the latest version of W11 works differently now. My issue has been fixed for months now. I hope you figure it out.
