Help with "Windows 10 installation has failed" at 73% on Windows 8.1 Pro

Every time I try to install Windows 10 through the Media tool I always stop at 73%. I tried to do it on a Clean Boot and it was the same. I also tried to remove the "read-only" and "system" attributes on the "$WINDOWS.~BT", but it doesn't let me change the "Read-Only" attribute on a file called boot.sdi and I don't know how to remove the "System" attribute.

    hey i have a question so how would you install windows 10 without the updates im either blind and i cant see it or im doing something wrong here

    There has been some great advice here, thanks heaps guys. I had the same issue with the install failing at 73%. I also noted that the install tool initially offered the option "Change how Windows Setup downloads updates" however after my first run the tool had changed and did not offer the option anymore. Instead it opted to automatically download updates, which I interrupted by disabling my wifi - indeed as mentioned before this worked, with a bit of patience. It took about 5 mins before the installer decided to move on, and the the installation worked perfectly with updates loading past the successful install. Thanks to those who pointed out the update issue!

    How did you know exactly when it starts to download updates? For me it is only "Downloading Windows 10" without pointing the difference between base OS and updates, so I have no idea when to cut the connection.

    I use Media Creation Tool -> Update PC(when I get to choose whether to update pc or prepare ISO image) -> downloading -> verification of downloaded data -> etc etc etc

    I don't remember exactly. Try before the window turns blue. The idea is to stop windows from updating during the installation process.

    I receive the same error, after previously having Windows 10 Home installed on the computer. My computer crashed and wouldn't restart. I used my recovery USB stick, but didn't realize it was my original with Windows 8.1. Now when I try to upgrade to Windows 10, I get the "Windows 10 installation has failed" at 73%.

    My profile on my Microsoft account shows the correct computer setup and W[ndows 10 as the operating system - meaning my account is associated with Windows 10, but still no dice on the upgrade.

    There I got an older version of Window 10

    Then I upgrade to several Win 10 versions until obtain Windows 10 Home Edition Version 21H2
