Cumulative updates June 2021

Thanks for the info. Yesterday my Laptop got a restart notice for updates so I let it proceed thinking maybe they fixed their mess and it would work. So it ran through with the "blue" screen with update time info and all. Said 50%-100% for one then it got to "cleaning up" it went from 0%-100% within seconds, said "complete" do not turn off machine. And I let it sit like that for 4 hr. Did a hard shut down. restarted, checked the download status did not even acknowledge yesterday happened, did not even show a "failed" status for that date. Does anybody know what the F?

It sounds strange to me. What is your info under Device Specifications & Windows Specification at "right-click START, System"? Either use the Copy buttons or show a picture. We'll be able to determine how far you are updated regarding the quality & feature updates from that information. Then, we can try to update your computer manually. But that is very strange. Sounds a lot like groundhog day.

Thanks for that, fg2001. That Windowslatest article definitely convinces me to try the workarounds if/when still necessary in the official release of Win 11....

You’ll be able to bypass Windows 11 TPM 2.0 requirement

(1) I've already put the tweak into my Registry. But I'm prepared to do it again during the install (as the article says) in case it is the new Registry that really needs it.

(a) Type "RegEdit" into Search, & click "Run as Administrator".

(b) Copy/paste the following into its Address bar...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup

(c) Right-click "Setup" in the left pane, & select "New > Key"...

(d) Type "LabConfig" over what it offers for the name.

(e) Right-click "LabConfig" in the left pane, & select "New > DWORD"...

(f) Type "BypassTPMCheck" over what it offers for a name.

(g) Double-click "BypassTPMCheck in the right pane to edit it.

(h) Type "1" over its default value of "0"...

So, the key finally looks like this...

(i) Repeat from step (e) to add & modify "BypassSecureBootCheck", if necessary.

(2) If that doesn't work, for Method 2, I'll replace the appraiserres.dll that is on a Win 11 USB Installation drive with the one from my Win 10 USB Installation drive. Then I'll try first an upgrade-install with that. If it fails, I'll try a clean install with it. I don't see why I need mess with an .ISO.

Thanks again fg2001. You are a master of information. So far I do not see any of these suggestions will blow up this computer up anyhow.

Well, I do hope MSFT will drop the requirement for TPM altogether. I don't even have version 1.2 apparently. That will make the decision whether to install it much easier. Good to see you've got a computer or two that do pass scrutiny. And thanks for the information on how to install it otherwise. Sounds worth a try.

Does it run quicker as was said in that video? Are most settings & apps in the same place as before? That was good to hear Windows Backup & Restore is still there. You've been informative.

There are some easier ways of bypassing the checks, assuming MS does not add some other obstacle or block in the way.

There is a method described for Clean install on the link below, see Method 1.

As for upgrades it seems that just deleting (or hiding/renaming) appraiserres.dll in the sources folder of the Windows 11 installation media does the trick of bypassing the checks for hardware requirement.

Tried it on 2 Legacy BIOS machines that don't have any of the requirements and everything came up just fine.

I hope it stays that way...

What is a system image back up? How would I make one?

There are third party utilities to do that, but there is still the program built in windows which still works fine.

If you go to Control Panel -> File History -> Create System Image will let you create a backup on an external drive or on a separate Internal HDD different from the one where the Windows system is installed.

Once you have the backup created you can restore it using the functions on the Installation media that you already have or that you can create from the Windows 10 Download site using the Media Creation Tool.
