12/06/2021 A new out of band update KB5004476 released for version 2004, 20H2 and 21H1. Build number incremented to 19041.1022, 19042.1022, and 19043.1022. Changelog:

This non-security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:

  • Addresses an issue that might redirect you to the Microsoft Store page for Gaming Services when you try to install or start an Xbox Game Pass game on your Windows 10 device. Additionally, you receive error 0x80073D26 or 0x8007139F. For more information, see KB5004327.

This update is available as an optional update in Windows update.

    There is a problem. I have 4 computers. On the first three, from Windows update, I did the KB updates KB5003637, KB5003254 .NET framework and cumulative 20H2 updates first. When I did that, the option to update to 21H1 disappeared seemingly permanently.

    So on my fourth computer I did the 21H1 update first, and that went fairly smoothly, only took a few minutes, and then later the KB updates which took a while.

    So then on one of the first computers I used the Windows Upgrade tool to update to the 21H1, since it was no longer available through Windows update, even after running the update troubleshooter. It started to install normally, then took hours to finish the installing section. Then when it went to "restart" for install, it gives you the dreaded "undoing changes made to your computer" and my computer then shut down unexpectedly when it shouldn't have. So the 21H1 install failed, and I still don't have an option in "Windows Update" to do it.

    What the heck guys?? Why do they roll multiple update options out when they haven't even tested to see if they are compatible??? Do the programmers even test this stuff??? Now I have no idea what "corruptions" have occured.

    Thanks for your message. For me, MS Support had to place me on hold to consult with their experts... he came back to tell me that the experts had said that there was a 50/50 chance of me getting the templates back AFTER I restored!

    System Restore has now been running for about 4 hours, and now reads "restoring the Registry", so I still have some hope left in me... I'm terrified to even consider what could happen if I interrupt this process!

    I use system image backup after a good update, I can restore my system to the last good working condition in 10-15 minutes if anything goes wrong.

    My C: drive is a 512GB SSD which is used for the Windows system and installed programs. (About 30% filled)

    All my data is on a separate internal HDD drive which is backed up separately from the windows system.

    MS is constantly trying to decide what everyone wants, and by doing so, they ignore specific needs that people have come to depend on. I could give you examples, but I don't want MS to figure out how to prevent my personal workarounds in the future. So I'm keeping them private.

    Yes, and all this wasted time is trying to find a fix for a feature that no one asked for. Why is MS rolling out these types of "features"? We don't need a news system tray app, we all have browsers already. I wish they'd fix/deliver all the outstanding stuff that people have requested for years. I could probably list out 30 of them just from the top of my head that are 1000x more useful than a news popup
