I just want to be on record as having the exact problem as you with the system icons. The MS technician I talked to had no idea how to fix it after hours of making suggestions. The only resolution came from uninstalling the last update.
I've been using MS for 30 years because there are certain features I can't get on other systems, but I sure hate how much time I have to waste with their habit of sending out flawed updates and trying to fix it later.
This latest update destroyed the templates on my 2019 Visual Studio Community and I had to restore the system to before this update. Anyone having this issue? Am I supposed to reinstall VS if I allow this update?
Actually, I've just noticed that Restore has been running now for over 1 hour and it's still in the 'System Restore is initializing' stage... this is supposed to be way faster. I hope that the Windows Team did not release an update that is not reversible. I have Win 10 Home edition and need more information about the consequences of having allowed this update, please
This latest update screwed up my system tray icons. I updated, then noticed a ridiculous new icon that seems to show news from an Edge popup. I really don't like that stuff distracting me while I work. So I disabled it in taskbar settings (right-click taskbar). After rebooting, all my system tray icons are gone. I then hovered over the area, and noticed a left and right arrow, which I believe lets you scroll through system tray icons. I clicked on one, and some of my system tray icons appeared, but not all. Can't see clock, etc. So I had to go into Windows Update settings and uninstall the patch and uninstall fixed it. Doesn't MS test their updates? Also, I don't want new icons with popups and forced to open Edge browser (yes, it's not my main browser and I don't want it to be). How many times do I need to say "no, I don't want Edge to be my default browser"?
I wish MS would give us the features we've been requesting for years instead of things that we don't want. I don't think anyone asked for a Fake News system tray icon that breaks the taskbar.
Also, fix your Start menu (or get rid of it, because it seems like you can't work it out). Sometimes you click on it and nothing happens. This has been an issue for years.
Overly happy to announce to the WHOLE WORLD that Windows updates can NO LONGER happen on my computer!
After today's nightmare with last night's upgrade, I want you to tell me please how to turn off updates forever. I don't mind security updates, but I don't want Windows to change otherwise.
I really don't want to waste another two hours, only to find out that I have to uninstall the latest update. I currently cannot block new updates except for 35 days maximum. That's not long enough if they're going to entirely destroy the functionality of my machine. How did you do it?

So you got destroyed by their update to? I have been dealing with a sluggish, horrible pc for 2 hours now. I was to be on here for a short while but when things like this happen I deal with them. MS should be dealing with this as I did not ask for this update to be installed.
Your update which was forced this morning on me for some reason has totally slowed down my pc. It is a bloody mess. I know what I am doing with a pc so don't put this on me. Also I never chose to get the update so yeah you forced it.
