Cumulative updates June 2021

I don''t understand how it can accept "updates" on W10 for W11. Never in the past (to my knowledge) did W10 upgrade say W7! For past programs you were issued a notice sayin support no longer available! Why with this one if you have W10 is it trying to put W11 upgrades in?

Nothing new, we could always upgrade from previous windows version to the most recent one and keeping files and installed programs.

Some of my machines where upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8, then 8.1, then windows 10, now they can go to windows 11 assuming the hardware has the requirements.

With windows 11 they are trying to drop the older machines out of the game just adding extra restrictions for the hardware.

Clearly you can always do a clean install if you want to waste the time of reinstalling all your programs.

I just did an Upgrade from Win 10 to Win 11 on my Lenovo Yoga 920 and kept all the previously installed stuff.

Everything worked just fine.

They also said that machines without the requirement can be still get windows 11 if they were in the Development channel already before June 24, then when Win 11 goes GA they will be dropped out and we'll have to reinstall or restore a backup of Windows 10.

Why would MSFT make it a requirement to have TPM if Win 11 doesn't really need to use it? Can it be it will be used when the first quality update comes in? Or what about the first feature update? I know a Win 10 .iso can also be made to have a Win 11 Install.esd, but it's tougher to do. Glad to hear you are having success with it thus far. I am a tad envious. Booting to Safe Mode & back messes up my Desktop icons in Win 10, but it doesn't happen if I change the size of the icons first. Then change it back afterward.

TPM is for extra security, it is not a deal breaker, there are many people complaining about that requirement, maybe MS will listen and make it optional ?

Oh, I see, take the Install.esd from a Win 11 Installation media & put it into Win 10 Installation media. Then do the install using the altered Win 10 media to end up with Win 11. It seems to be ingenious because the requirement checks are outside the .esd. But -- even if the installation process doesn't need TPM to be present during the install -- what about afterward when running Win 11? What happens when it tries to use it?

If TPM is not there it will just not use it.

BTW.

I just upgraded my Lenovo Yoga 920 from 19043.1081 to Win 11 and everything seems to work fine on this machine.

This one has all the prerequisites so I was not expecting any issues.

The only problem is that, since they changed the Taskbar using extra space , they also rearranged all my Icons on the desktop sorted alphabetically, so I had to put them back manually the way they were before the update.

Not a big deal, just an annoyance. 😉

I'll back it up and then restore my 21H1 system waiting for the official Win 11 MS build next week....
