Windows update fails to install 2021-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB5004237)

Good day,

I have attempted numerous times to install windows update 2021-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB5004237) on my system. It fails regardless of the various command to shut down and restart services. The error code is: 0x80073712

When I went to the Windows Catalog, this version would not load. It said that it was not for my system. What is attempting to load is a different version of KB5004237, but that too failed.

Is there a way to fix or bypass this update?

    Antivirus is ESET, but behavior is same with it enabled or disabled.

    (minor update) Windows is 21H1 Version 10.0.19043 Build 19043

    When turning any third-partys antivirus program off, Windows Defender will automatically turn on! So, also turn the Defender off, and keep it open, and keep an eye on it, because seconds later, it will turn back on again - turn it off again-again, and it will then be turned off. Do that before trying to update your computer once again-again.

    When updating HOPEFULLY, is succeded, first turn on Windows Defender. Then, turn on your ESET-antivirus. Windows Defender will then turn off automatically - and keep turned of...

    That may be the case, the windows update can become problematic any time.

    If you’re using Windows Defender do the virus definitions update?

    Try Right click on start & choose powershell with admin & enter:

    SFC /SCANNOW

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    Appreciate the reply, that's good information.

    That, however, was not key to being able install the update. As Time Lady suggests, and I note previously in my original post, what seemed to fix the problem was running the DISM command with the RestoreHealth option. After that the update ran cleanly.
