Windows update fails to install 2021-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB5004237)

Good day,

I have attempted numerous times to install windows update 2021-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB5004237) on my system. It fails regardless of the various command to shut down and restart services. The error code is: 0x80073712

When I went to the Windows Catalog, this version would not load. It said that it was not for my system. What is attempting to load is a different version of KB5004237, but that too failed.

Is there a way to fix or bypass this update?

Thank you

The in-place repair should take several hours. With my 2TB SSD it take 3.5 hours.

Do you have a Windows.old folder or not after running the repair?

Hi. Thanks, that approach did not work as it found no errors Same with the utility that looks to bring the system up to current version.

    Sorry.

    You’re welcome.

If you tried the in-place repair (which is different from a reset & will take several hours) then a clean install of Windows is required.
