Original title: wdfilter.sys missing or contains error.

Ok so after I got WdBoot.sys error, I did  chkdsk and sfc /scannow. It seems to go away, but another Wd error appears again, WdFilter.sys now. It seems that windows defender is having problem but I don't know how that happens. I'm also assuming the whole wd driver is faulty. Any solution?

Update: I just did a system restore and the wdboot.sys error came back.

Which Windows 10 build are you running - 1909, 2004, 20H2 or 21H1?

The problem can be caused by malware:

Try running these programs:

MBAM free: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

Eset online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

If these find one or more infections but do not fully remove them it will be wise to register with a malware removal site to receive dedicated malware removal instructions, an expert will remain with you throughout the process until confirmation that your PC is 100% clean.

    Ok so I did system restore, which not working. I am thinking of downloading a new wdboot.sys and put it in driver files.

    By the way, the bootable USB should be empty?

    It should be first in the list. It should say Undo my last restoration.

    If restore failed then try in safe mode.
    The usb should contain either Windows installation media or Macrium Reflect boot files (if you created this) it should not contain any other files.
    There should be a troubleshoot option at the bottom of the screen.
