Original title: wdfilter.sys missing or contains error.

Ok so after I got WdBoot.sys error, I did  chkdsk and sfc /scannow. It seems to go away, but another Wd error appears again, WdFilter.sys now. It seems that windows defender is having problem but I don't know how that happens. I'm also assuming the whole wd driver is faulty. Any solution?

Update: I just did a system restore and the wdboot.sys error came back.

Which Windows 10 build are you running - 1909, 2004, 20H2 or 21H1?

The problem can be caused by malware:

Try running these programs:

MBAM free: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

Eset online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

If these find one or more infections but do not fully remove them it will be wise to register with a malware removal site to receive dedicated malware removal instructions, an expert will remain with you throughout the process until confirmation that your PC is 100% clean.

    Yes there should be an undo restore option.

    Some manufacturers do seem to have this. - I can still click F7 for the temporary boot menu. Or you can change the boot order settings in the bios.
    The hard drive is usually first in the list, ensure that it is.

    I will try to restore once more which is on 6/9 if that's recommended. Can you also undo the system restore?

    By the way I don't understand the last part, can I use boot order settings from UEFI settings instead?

    It is possible to undo the restore if it was this which caused the problem. Have you tried this?

    If you can get access to another PC then download Macrium Reflect & create their boot media on USB, once created you can use this to boot the problem pc & run their fix boot tool. If this doesn’t work then you can use the USB to backup/image the drive.

    To boot the PC from a USB you would restart the device with this USB inserted & as soon as you see the manufacturer’s logo you rapidly press the key which corresponds to the temporary boot order change key - this can be F7, F8, F12.
