Original title: wdfilter.sys missing or contains error.

Ok so after I got WdBoot.sys error, I did  chkdsk and sfc /scannow. It seems to go away, but another Wd error appears again, WdFilter.sys now. It seems that windows defender is having problem but I don't know how that happens. I'm also assuming the whole wd driver is faulty. Any solution?

Update: I just did a system restore and the wdboot.sys error came back.

Which Windows 10 build are you running - 1909, 2004, 20H2 or 21H1?

The problem can be caused by malware:

Try running these programs:

MBAM free: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

Eset online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

If these find one or more infections but do not fully remove them it will be wise to register with a malware removal site to receive dedicated malware removal instructions, an expert will remain with you throughout the process until confirmation that your PC is 100% clean.

    Open command prompt or powershell with admin & enter:

    BOOTREC /SCANOS

    BOOTREC /FIXBOOT

    BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD

    However as you cannot access safe mode then this isn’t possible.

    Have you checked the manufacturer’s website for any BIOS update?

    I did "bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup" does it has anything to do with this? And how do I create another bcd store?

    It could mean some program or malware has taken over the boot or that Windows cannot find the correct boot path.

    Many of the fixes for this require the user to be able to login (which is strange to me) or a boot drive (media creation tool USB), however if you can access the BIOS then check that the HDD/SSD is the first in the boot order.

    I couldn't start to safe mode either... guess I will keep asking a friend.

    Before you leave, can I ask what's "path not found c:\boot" when I did "attrib c:\boot\bcd -h -r -s"?
