Original title: wdfilter.sys missing or contains error.

Ok so after I got WdBoot.sys error, I did  chkdsk and sfc /scannow. It seems to go away, but another Wd error appears again, WdFilter.sys now. It seems that windows defender is having problem but I don't know how that happens. I'm also assuming the whole wd driver is faulty. Any solution?

Update: I just did a system restore and the wdboot.sys error came back.

Which Windows 10 build are you running - 1909, 2004, 20H2 or 21H1?

The problem can be caused by malware:

Try running these programs:

MBAM free: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

Eset online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

If these find one or more infections but do not fully remove them it will be wise to register with a malware removal site to receive dedicated malware removal instructions, an expert will remain with you throughout the process until confirmation that your PC is 100% clean.

    As Windows is so corrupted I would recommend a clean install of Windows.

    If you could boot into Windows even with safe mode with networking then you could download Macrium Reflect & create their boot media to try & repair the boot &/or create a disk image to preserve your files.

    Otherwise I’m out of options.

    I'm pretty sure it's corrupted. Because, 2 days ago, I was updating a game called Roblox. 5 minutes into the game it goes BSOD with stop code "Thread stuck in device driver" then I tried fiddling the command prompt, more info on my other questions.

    Then Windows is either too corrupted or has malware.

    You would require the installation media to be able to run DISM using the WIM source:

    I would post on one of the malware removal forums I mentioned just in case the problem is caused by malware.

    I did sfc scannow and DISM too but sfc comes with 100% verification along with "Windows resource protection could not start the repair service" and DISM comes out with source couldn't be found or something like that.

    I'm trying "chkdsk C: /f /r /x" because the error path is "windows\system32\drivers\wd\wdboot.sys/wdfilter.sys" I thought it might work.
