Cannot see own wireless network but can see others around me

Hi all,

Seemingly after last Windows update (though I'm not sure) I cannot see my own wireless network on my home laptop. I can see all the networks of my neighbors, but not my own.

I can see it and connect to my wireless network with my Work laptop. My partner can see it and connect to it with her two laptops and her smartphone.

I checked the wireless network adapter (Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC) and when I click Properties and then Configure, the General tab says "This device is working properly." However, when I look at the icon in the Control Panel under Network Connections there is a big red X next to the Wi-Fi icon and it says "Not Connected".

When I click the Diagnose button the result is "You have not chosen to connect to any of the available networks" (and I can't since I don't know the security keys for those networks). Then skipping to the next step, the next window says "None of the networks you have previously connected to are in range"

Any advice?

    Hi Franco,

    Thanks again for getting back to me. I reset the Node steering and Client Steering back to on (Bluetooth adapter is still disabled). Then went to Network and Internet --> Wi-fi --> Manage Known Networks. There is no option to "cancel storage". There is only one network on the list which is mine "Galahad" and clicking that gives the option "Properties" or "Forget". See screenshot.

    I've tried the "forget" option (I've tried this before) but no luck. I do see a hidden network among the network profiles and have tried connecting to it, but that hasn't worked.

    I've posted a screenshot of the advanced tab for the wireless network adapter:

    Bandwidth: Options are: 20_40MHz or 20MHz Only. Currently set at 20_40MHz

    Beacon Interval: Value is set at 100

    Preamble Mode: Options are: "Short & long" or "Long only". Currently set at "Short and long"

    Roaming Sensitivity Level: Options are: Disabled, Low, Middle, High. Currently set at "Low"

    Wake on Magic Packet: Options are: Enabled or Disabled. Currently set at Enabled

    Wake on Pattern Match: Options are: Enabled or Disabled. Currently set at Enabled

    Wireless Mode: Options are: Auto, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11b/g. Currently set at "Auto"

    Wifi Network adapters:

    Work Laptop: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 (this one is not dual band as far as I know)

    Partner's Laptop 1: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160

    Partner's Laptop 2: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265

    I suspect you're right about compatibility issue between router and adapter (though still puzzling why I can't see my network even if I can't connect to it, but I can see all these networks around it)

    I'm going to try to purchase a USB adapter.

    Hi Franco,

    After the last reply I sent you and before your reply I changed the 2.4ghz band back to my original SSID. Does that make a difference? Or should I change it back again to the new SSID and proceed as your most recent directions?

    Hi,

    try to temporarily turn off the 5 GHz band and at the same time keep Bluetooth disabled. Try again.

    If still not solved, temporarily configure the hotspot on your smartphone, keep your router off, then connect your laptop to the hotspot network and check if you can access the internet.

    After this test turn the router back on, go to the Wi-Fi settings page, click on Advanced, search for Channel width or Bandwidth and report the current setting or post the screenshot.

    Hi,

    it is possible to change the name of the wi-fi network in different ways, by connecting to the router via a network cable with your PC, via another PC, either via ethernet or via wi-fi or via another device. The important thing is that you change the name, the way you change the name does not matter.
