Cumulative Updates - December 2020

After this update's installed, my pc started acting weird. When I hit Sleep on Start menu, the screen went off, but computer still run. And I can not wake it up. No keyboard and mouse response. Had to hold the shut down button on pc case to shut it down.  I uninstalled this update then everything get back to normal.

Go to device manager and under View choose Shoew hidden devices

This is totally insanity from MS.

How can they do this to all their customers?

My Lenovo Laptop did the same, but i did not follow MS Support (Robots) Always the same answer.

I bricked my account though but there is a way to enable a "Secret" Admin account with a small powershell command.

and then log in with that and create a new user account and also the Admin account should be able to access all files in your computer.

I'm sorry if you've posted more info before. I just took the last post here because i solved it on my daughters computer.

There are well known bugs when you upgrade, depending on what version MS says at least.

Well for most of you the problem is two parts.

1. All certificates have been rendered useless. And no! SFC /Scannow or DISM commands won´t fix it.
2. One Drive has gotten superpowers and taken ownership of all files because of the Windows defender Ransomware protection.

In my case both.

In my daughters case only that crappy OneDrive. I hope MS learned them self a lesson this time!

To solve it on her windows 10 Home edition i first choose unlink this computer inside One drives settings.

Well, that worked but all her files got lost and her dekstop files :(

I tried the recovery software Recuva. And to my surprise it could no find her Photos and videos.

I tried and tried, and gave up on that.

I then just opened explorer and started to search for videofiles in her profile.

And i found the OneDrive folder hidden under i think it was C:\users\herusername\Appdata\Local\OneDrive or somewhere in her user profile folder. It doesnt mater. if you search you will find it. I then moved all those files to a c:\Temp folder.

Then i thought it was ok again.

well not quite. Since OneDrive had taken privilige over a lot of folders i actually signed in with her account again and changed the settings in OneDrive to always keep local files, and then i chose one folder to sync instead of all her profile.

That solved her problems.

I also scanned for updates and updated everything.

She lost some icons on her desktop to different games and stuff but i found the folder where the games were installed and looked for the EXE file starting the game and made a shortcut to it on her desktop.

But it is still issues with it. None that she notices but i can se in the log files that there are a lot of errors.

Shame on you MS. There are soooo many people out there affected by this. I have spent about 2 or 3 weeks trying to fix this.

There are still crazy things going on but my laptop is working now.

and since when is it common practise to tell your customers to reinstall their computers.

Your position on the marker will drop very much soon.

For all of you who are afraid of Linux but still want a stable computer to work on and study on i can highly recommend Linux Mint.

It is made to look and feel like windows 10. there are tons of apps for free and you can use Office totally free. It's not MS Office but it is 100% compatible. And to all you gamers.... YES there is Steam for Linux Mint so you can run your games.

and Linux Mint is free.

There is much documentation and they always answer with the correct help and never ever tell anyone to reinstall the system!!

If you want the easiest way to use it choose the Cinnamon version

The last link is a video compering the both OS and one of the first thing he is mentioning is all the update problems.

He really tried for several hours to update from windows 10 1803.

He also show all the crazy problems in removing the users options to do what the h**l they want with their Computer and he also reads from the forums with all the robotic answers from MS.

Updated Windows 10 last night (Dec 11 2020).  Now have BSOD and have tried EVERYTHING to get it to start in Safe Mode, with step-by-step instructions followed from Microsoft support.  NOTHING works to get this update rolled back.  I now have a useless brick and school on Monday.  Ugh.  Somebody owes me a laptop.  Taking it to Geek Squad to see what they can do....
