How do I remove these updates - the usual method fails with the update KB4592438 so I cannot get bac to the point where things worked properly. This uninvited miscreant has stopped things working and cost me money.

Hi Sumit. You've been MIA! Who do we ask in Microsoft to RECALL this awful update causing 1000s of people having issues?

I'm hoping that this might help someone. Remember that Microsoft really doesn't care.

On the assumption that you can at least boot far enough to get windows up, a lot of diagnosis can be done with windows own settings.

    Assuming windows 10,

Right click the star icon and select device manager.

First see if you have any with warnings.

Right click, select properties and look at properites : driver

My problem was that no drive had been loaded (no sound or microphone detected)

Then do a similar check on whatever area of hardware you're having trouble with.

Look at the drivers: In my case windows had installed a Kaspersky driver, and an Intel driver for a Conexant sound card.

Now go t windows update and see what updates are installed, and when they went in.

In my case there were three that had gone in the day before the problem hit

I had tried everything I could think of  to get the right drivers, but got to the stage where I could download the right ones, but the would not install because windows had not recognised the hardware.

Alas I can't tell what KB number they are because I cannot find how to get to my other question on this other thread.

Searching windows setting for windows updates, there was one ready to be downloaded and installed, I have no idea what number it is because it installed windows version 20H2, and as far as my machine is now concerned that is a baseline and nothing previous has ever existed.

Anyway, after installing that everything started working Ok again.

Not sure if that gives any pointers, but I am now on 19402.746
