thanks again mrdbeta.  Glad I could make you laugh-- as I cringe/cry  :D

I watched the How to Install a Hard Drive Video:  uhhh... so now I have to BUY a new Hard Drive, not knowing what type I need-- Easy enough to look up perhaps.  However, I believe I'd have to also figure out what type cables to BUY to go with that drive? Then, WHERE?? to install the cables.  Around my neck perhaps :D

The video wasn't very clear on that point. .. only said you must be very careful inserting the cables.

The Virtual Box video had me riveted up and until around 2:15 where it warns of VBox resetting your network and temporarily disconnecting you from the network. That gave me chills.  At about 2:54 minutes in-- As soon as I heard ISO file, that was the end for me. I didn't dare watch any longer.  I had spent enough days (weeks?) with an ISO file for Windows10!!  (with your help as usual.)

I did watch the Big Sur "kick in the balls" apple video.  Is nothing sacred anymore?  SMH

I did not watch the bricked apple video as it does not apply, and by that time my head was spinning and my eyes were crossing from the other videos and reading all the problems here.

Didn't even mention the  installation of LINUX and that learning curve and your point about needing a firewall after the install.  This is too much for ME! This is way above the pay grade for this TECHNICALLY CHALLENGED USER!

If it weren't for the current covid problems and having to social distance , I'd pay someone to come to the house to try to fix things if it came to that.  I'm crying UNCLE at this point.

It may be easier to begin to train homing pigeons to get messages to people should my machine crash and burn in a few weeks when I'm force fed the updates as a windows HOME user.

Update:

The customer service representative I spoke with, Alex S., escalated my case to tier 2. Whoever he spoke with said that because the warranty is expired, I would have to pay $500.00 to replace the device regardless of the fact that the issue to my device occurred as a direct result of a forced Microsoft update.

He is bringing up this case in a team meeting on Thursday morning and will provide an update Friday.

I am not optimistic. I think Microsoft is trying to sweep a rather large and widespread issue under the rug that has potential to become a multimillion dollar class action lawsuit.

My otherwise very dependable laptop has now been effectively rendered useless after the last win 10 update. 5 to 10 minutes to boot up, every window tab excruciatingly slow to load if at all. will not let me revert to previous build. help!!

Well I checked out the link you kindly provided from windows central that offers 3 solutions to pause updates.

Once again, no disrespect to the beautiful gingers out there, I'm a red-headed stepchild in that I use Windows 10 HOME.  Only ONE solution (pausing the updates for a very limited amount of time) will work for HOME users.  I'm not shelling out $$ to MS to get the PRO version.  PRO versions are not at all immune to the update disasters quite obviously, although they seem to have more options to get around things than us "poor" HOME users :D 

The other two solutions given there are for PRO users only.   Read more about how to do this following the link mrdbeta provided.

IF I had Pro, I'd be trying those work-a rounds,  but I cannot.  The plot thickens.
