Have you tried the windows update troubleshooter. What version and build do you have now?
I have already tried update trouble shooter. I have 20H2 version.
I have 3 machines, 2 desktops which have updated with out this issue, and a laptop which has this issue. All are on the same version/build of windows - 20H2/19042.746
Troubleshooter/Update says it cannot find anything wrong with the system, so as I have said the only way to fix it I have found is the unistall it then prevent it reinstalling using "wushowhide.diagcab".
I don't require advice on how to fix it, the fix, until M/Soft do something about the update) is to remove it on any machine that exhibits this same problem. And yes I have reported it to M/Soft and never had any response other than to try reinstalling windows

Wow. Thanks for that, but I'm annoyed with a thing in Windows Update. (This issue is not related to Cumulative Updates, but it is related to Updates.)
I had turned on the Active Hours feature in Update & Security. But I always have to click Check for Updates once every day so that Windows can install the Defender Updates, like the Security Intelligence Updates. It can't install it automatically. What can I do? I had update install errors many months ago and solved it using the built-in wsreset.exe app. But now, it's the problem of Defender updates. It scans automatically and tells me that I'm up-to-date, but when I click that Check for Updates, it shows Updates available.
