Green checkmarks on desktop icons

How do I get rid of the green check marks on my desktop icons and photos in windows 10?

I must have done something, but I don't know what---today, when I went to my photos, there's these checkmarks on each photo--

I googled and can't seem to fix it---the word Drop Box comes up and I have no idea what that is--

Can someone help?

Hello MaryWilliamsRN,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with green check marks on your icons on windows 10.

This indicates that those files are synchronized with Microsoft OneDrive

Look for OneDrive(Cloud) icon on the bottom right side of your taskbar (system tray)

Right click it then select Close OneDrive

Click Close OneDrive again

If it doesn't work, Safely restart your PC

    This is in response to John DeV's suggestion.

    I looked for the One Drive icon on the task bar and it wasn't there. So I went to the One Drive page to learn about it. I don't care to use the One Drive so I was surprised to see that the amount of One Drive used was 2.99 of 5.0. I looked at the options to purchase more space but I won't pay for what I don't want. I saw the photos and documents in the One Drive. I wanted to delete them and it told me how. Click on the item and hit delete (on my keyboard). I deleted almost all of them. I believe it freed up space. I haven't checked to see if the green check marks are gone yet, but I think my problem is solved as to them being put on the photos and documents. I spent the better part of the afternoon and evening trying to find out where they came from. TOTALLY RIDICULOUS! At least I was sent in the right direction. Thanks so much.
