How do I get rid of the green check marks on my desktop icons and photos in windows 10?
I must have done something, but I don't know what---today, when I went to my photos, there's these checkmarks on each photo--
I googled and can't seem to fix it---the word Drop Box comes up and I have no idea what that is--
Can someone help?

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be happy to assist you today. I understand you have a problem with green check marks on your icons on windows 10.
This indicates that those files are synchronized with Microsoft OneDrive
Look for OneDrive(Cloud) icon on the bottom right side of your taskbar (system tray)
Right click it then select Close OneDrive
Click Close OneDrive again
If it doesn't work, Safely restart your PC

2022-01-04T00:24:35+00:00 Is any folder other than Documents infected? Although Norton appears to have been installed well after summer ended, it is my main suspect. Does it have a feature to protect your documents & other user files from hijackers? Then that is what is happening. That is what OneDrive seeks to do with the Documents, Pictures & Desktop folders when set for it. It keeps an instantaneous backup of the contents of those folders.

I upgraded this computer to WIN 10 in JAN 2020 give or take a day. The boxes with the green and the blue boxes with the other arrows boxes started maybe in the summer. I'll add a screen grab of that as well. I appreciate your input. Thank you.

2021-12-24T21:08:31+00:00 As I said earlier, that isn't OneDrive which only has circles. You've got big ugly squares. It does appear to be reminiscent of OneDrive, though. It likely is a 3rd-party app at fault.
(a) Let us see its context menu (right-click it).
(b) Show us "right-click Taskbar, Task Manager, Startup tab".
(c) Let's see "START, Settings, Apps, Programs & Features".
Blot out any that may be top secret. Does any "Installed On" look real close to the date the phenomenon began...?...
