Sharper Image Weather Station EC-WS115 not updating

Thanks to this community, I have found the software for the Sharper Image EC-WS115, and I've learned how to deal with its USB issues under Windows 10. 

But, it stopped updating the forecast on November 30th, 2020.

The 5-day forecast software gives me an error saying "Cannot connect to server. Please try again later" whenever I try to update the forecast.

Is anyone else having this issue, or just me? Has Foreca shut down the server used to feed information to these devices?

I don't want to send this device to a landfill.

I finally had some success this morning utilizing a workaround that was developed with a lot input from a number of people.  I've created a step-by-step guide as to what I did to get my Sharper Image EC-WS115 5-Day weather forecast station up and running again after the server quit working back on November 30th.  If you use Windows, then this solution should work.  I just got it working this morning, so I haven't fully tested it yet to see if it automatically updates like it used to or if there are any bugs in the code.  If you're interested in taking a peak at the process (5 steps), then download the zip file containing all the files you will need to make it work.  The step-by-step guide is a filed titled 'Read Me.pdf'.  Thanks to all those who did the hard work by decompiling and writing new code in order to make it work.  The zip file can be downloaded here (just click on 'download' in the upper-left-hand corner):

Can anyone put a detailed process on how to get the weather station up and running.  I have downloaded the zip files, gone to Weatherbit and got my personal number.  But , I cannot find the file folders that I have to copy other files to.. please help me.  I want  to get my weather station back on line.  Thanks!

Good morning Michael, as Eric mentioned in another post, check the ReadMe.pdf file that has step-by-step instructions on where everything goes.  Here's also a link to a 27-minute video tutorial that steps through each step in detail.  Hope this helps.  Happy New Year!

    Casper,

    First, I want to thank you for all the time and effort you've put into getting these forecasters working again.  Like many others, I've had mine for a very long time and I've been through the occasional server outages with them over the years but none that ever lasted that long.  I followed your instructions shortly after you first posted them and my forecaster is working great again.

    One thing though; since installing the Wamp server, I've started getting a lot of security notifications daily that my Norton Internet Security program keeps blocking a high risk web attack called Masscan Scanner Request that's coming from the Wamp\Bin\Apache\Apache2.4.9\Bin\httpd.exe file.

    I'm concerned now that I may be risking my computer security with the Wamp Apache setup.  Has this been happening to anyone else since the install and if so, is it a concern?

    Thanks in advance for any advice.

    I have a hunch on what it might be.  I believe you have the correct version of the software, but just in case, I  included a copy in the DropBox folder at the link below.  I've also included a couple of other files for use as a resource to see if my hunch is correct.  I'm thinking that since you reinstalled your software, you might live in one of the locales that doesn't translate correctly between the 'old' servers and the new Weatherbit.io servers.  This happened to another user last week and we figured out a simple fix for it.

    So, the first step would be to download the two files from the DropBox called "Original Provider - City IDs - North America.xlsx" and "Weatherbit.io - City IDs - Worldwide.xlsx" (Let me know if you live outside North America and I can upload those files as well).  Once downloaded, open both files and find your city in each file.  The City IDs should be different by exactly 100,000,000.  If not, then that's the issue.  Almost all of the city IDs are off by the exact same amount (100,000,000) so, by subtracting 100,000,000 off of the old number (in the code), you get the new number and all is good, but if the number is off more/less than that - it won't work.  To fix the code if the number is off by more than the 100,000,000, just close the weather program and then open getweather.php with notepad or something (the file is in the "c:\wamp\www" folder).  About half-way down there is a line that says    return $city - 100000000;       So, just change the value to whatever it is off by, for example 100000003, save and close it, then restart the weather program you should now be able to set your home city.  Good luck!  Scott

    Not sure what I did, but in trying to figure out how to work around the USB not connected messages, I messed up my installation.  I tried reinstalling the weather station software NIS01_INSTALL_2380.exe, but now I can't get it to save my home location on the PC software.   I can locate my city on the drop downs, but when I click save it doesn't update the home screen.   I also tried installing on a different computer with the same results.

    Any thoughts or help is appreciated?  Is there a newer version than what I have?
