Feature Update to Windows 10, version 20H2 has failed to installed 43 times.   The message in the "View Update History" indicates "Last failed install attempted on MM/DD/YYY - 0x80242016".

I've tried numerous posted articles to correct the 0x80242016 error to no avail.    Will I've tried various suggestions to delete the the update and download it, windows update trouble shooter, or stopping/starting various services before attempting to reinstall the update.  I have not be able to use the DISM command, with the local source files because I cannot locate the Windows source files on my PC.  Open to ideas and suggestions.

  • What risk to my machine would there be to perform a Windows 10 Update In Place from 1909 to 20H2 (assuming I can download an install the most current version/build)?
  • Would the update in place reuse my current license/activation.

my personal view is this problem is very complicate. There is thousands of reasons causing this problem. My problem is on the registry. I am lucky that I created a new post and there is an expert Microsoft engineer helping me to solve this problem.

Don't expect this problem can be easily solved. I think for those who still want to resolve the problem, create a new post for your problem. Hopefully there is a expert available to help you. Keep in mind that the expert engineer is a volunteer.

I think you must create a new post. otherwise, nobody is willing to help you. I think Microsoft have a credit system to award those expert helping other peoples in the community. However, I think only the creator can give the credit to the person helping you.

Agree with all of you. I have wasted hours trying to get from 1909 to 20H2, Microsoft are letting us down badly. They need to resolve this.

I totally agree with you and think Microsoft have done a big mistake not solving issues like this..

Sometimes people do not have the time  to solve issues with what they call critical updates.
