Windows 10 20H2 feature update causes lags, freezes, slow performance

I observed the same symptoms right after upgrade to 20H2 independently on two Windows machines. On one they were mostly gone (still happen occasionally for a fraction of a second) after subsequent system updates. But on the second they persisted long time afterwards. The frequency was terrible > 1/minute and the freezing lasted long several seconds - the longer and more often the longer the system was running after boot. It was painful to do any work at all.

I was trying different things, reinstalling and upgrading divers, disabling some devices, poking with settings, changing browsers, avoiding some software - all for vain.

One day I replaced the Dynamic Desktop Theme which was shuffling beautiful images on the wallpaper with the default boring static one (single image). No more jitter, no more freezing - all gone like magic.

Hope this help some of you guys, and perhaps hint some Microsoft developers to finally reproduce the case and try to uproot the real culprit?

My system is now reacting as quick as it did before 20H2.

To change page file size and doing Sfc and stuff was more like symptom treatment.

I still feel the programs are opening a bit less quick, but now the lags between clicking on something and receiving a response is gone.

I have to point out, that I had no problem with audio stuttering, but it was feeling like my system was running delayed.

Could really be caused by the thread priority, this flag is impacting.

Update on my update.

Finally gave in and reinstalled windows 10 with the latest version. I had uninstalled all my apps one by one, restarted to see if i could update my CAD software with no joy. At that point it made no sense to reload the apps in a bad windows environment so I did a clean install removing all files and apps from the online option. Reloaded all the APPs and Everything works great again. It sucks that the answer is always reload windows. Lost another 2 days screwing with this. THANKS WINDOWS UPDATES.

Same problem here. My machine started lagging suddenly about a week ago when it updated and has been slow ever since. Even after installing and reimaging to older versions including v.1909 and even 1511 it remains slow. Not to mention the forceful updates making it worse whenever they complete. I’m worried it might’ve permanently damaged my hardware somehow?

same problem here using 20h2 with a completely new pc, my mouse stutters when moving and freezing, updated all my drivers and reinstalled the system, but none of that resolved, when I open the task manager the stuttering decreases, but after a while it returns. this problem is already driving me crazy!
